Common questions about tongs, spatulas, gloves, peels and the rest of the grilling kit on our shelves. Cannot find what you need? Call 0434 010 411.
Should I buy a full tool set or individual pieces?
Both have a place. Full tool sets like the Coleman 11-Piece BBQ Tool Set or Broil King Imperial 3-Piece Set are the cleanest way to set up a new kitchen, with everything in a carry case ready to go. Good for gifts, beginner cooks, or anyone who wants matched-finish kit.
Individual pieces are better when you already cook seriously and want specialist tools. The Tramontina 6-inch Burger Spatula, Big Green Egg Meat Claws or Pyralit Poker & Lifter are workhorses you build a kit around over time.
Do I need heat-resistant gloves for kamado cooking?
Yes, especially for Big Green Egg and other kamados. Lifting the convEGGtor, adjusting the fire ring, or moving a hot grid mid-cook all require proper heat protection. A flimsy oven mitt is not enough at 250+ degrees.
The Argie Grillz Heat Resistant Gloves are our go-to for hands-on charcoal work. The Yoder Long Leather BBQ Gloves protect the forearm for deep reaches into pellet smokers. And the Big Green Egg EGGmitt is purpose-made for working around the ceramic dome.
What is the difference between silicone tongs and stainless steel tongs?
Silicone-tipped tongs like the Big Green Egg Silicone BBQ Tongs are gentler on cooking surfaces, especially ceramic kamado grids and non-stick surfaces. They will not scratch and grip protein cleanly without tearing the bark or skin.
All-stainless tongs like the Tramontina Churrasco Black BBQ Tongs handle higher direct-flame work and last decades. Better for over-the-fire grilling and rotating hot coals. Most serious cooks own both for different jobs.
What size burger spatula should I get?
For standard backyard burgers (110-150g patties), the Tramontina Churrasco Black 4-Inch Burger Spatula handles everything. The 4-inch blade slides under cleanly without overhanging the patty edges.
For smash burgers, larger patties, or moving multiple at once, the 6-Inch Burger Spatula gives more lift surface. Useful if you cook on a flat top or plancha and need to scrape and lift in one motion.
How do I clean and maintain my BBQ tools so they last?
For stainless steel tools: wash in hot soapy water immediately after use, dry thoroughly. Dishwashers are fine but hand-washing is gentler on the finish over years. Use a non-abrasive scrubber to lift cooked-on residue.
For leather gloves: keep dry between uses, wipe down any grease, condition the leather once or twice a year. Do not put them in a washing machine.
For silicone tongs: top rack of the dishwasher works fine, or hot soapy water by hand. Replace if the silicone shows cracks or tears.
What is the EGGmitt and when do I need one?
The Big Green Egg EGGmitt is a long, kevlar-lined BBQ glove specifically designed for hands-on kamado work. It protects the wrist and forearm during deep dome reaches when you need to adjust the convEGGtor, rearrange the fire ring, or move racks mid-cook.
Standard oven mitts only protect the hand. The EGGmitt extends past the elbow and handles the radiant heat that comes off the ceramic dome at sear-temperature cooks (300+ degrees). Essential if you run your Egg hard and often.
Do you have a recommendation for outdoor BBQ lighting?
The Broil King Universal Grill Light clips onto most BBQ handles and gives you bright LED illumination for the cooking surface. Essential for winter cooks when it gets dark at 5pm, or summer evenings when you are still cooking past sunset.
Battery-powered, magnetic mounting, and weatherproof. Pairs with any BBQ regardless of brand.
Do you offer Sydney same-day pickup on grilling tools?
Yes. Order online and collect from our Wetherill Park showroom any business day during opening hours. Call ahead on 0434 010 411 to confirm stock for specific items and we will set them aside.
