The thick cotton construction shields your hands for the high-heat, short-contact work that ruins ordinary oven mitts: lifting a hot grate, adjusting a firebox, moving a log, or opening a screaming hot lid. The silicone grip is the other half of the job, giving you a secure hold on hot, heavy, and greasy gear where a smooth glove would slip.
