Common Questions

Masterbuilt Gravity Series FAQs

Everything buyers ask us before purchasing. If your question is not here, call us or visit the showroom.

What is the difference between the Gravity Series 600 and the 1150?
The main difference is cooking space. The 600 has 600 square inches of cooking area and suits families of up to 4 cooking regularly. The 1150 has 1,150 square inches, nearly double, and is built for regular large group entertaining. Both models use the same GravityFed hopper system, cover the same temperature range of 107°C to 371°C, and include app control with up to 4 meat probes. The 600 is $1,599 and the 1150 is $2,099.
How does the Masterbuilt Gravity Series work?
You load charcoal into the GravityFed hopper, light it with a fire starter, and set your temperature on the digital control panel or the Masterbuilt app. A DigitalFan automatically controls airflow to hold your set temperature. As the charcoal burns from the bottom, new fuel drops down from the hopper, keeping the fire going for hours without manual intervention. You can smoke low and slow at 107°C or sear at up to 371°C without touching a vent.
Can I use lump charcoal or briquettes in the Gravity Series?
Both work. The GravityFed hopper is compatible with lump charcoal and briquettes. Lump charcoal generally produces a cleaner burn and more authentic smoke flavour. Briquettes offer longer and more consistent burn times. The 600 holds up to 5.4kg of lump charcoal or 8.2kg of briquettes for up to 18 hours of cooking. The 1150 holds up to 8kg of briquettes for up to 15 hours.
What warranty comes with a Masterbuilt purchased from BBQ Republic?
Every Masterbuilt Gravity Series purchased through BBQ Republic includes the full 2 year manufacturer warranty. BBQ Republic is an authorised Masterbuilt dealer, so your warranty is valid from day one and supported through the correct channel. Purchasing from an unauthorised seller risks warranty complications. When you buy from us, you are covered.
Do you deliver and install Masterbuilt BBQs across Sydney?
Yes. BBQ Republic offers free delivery and installation of all Masterbuilt Gravity Series BBQs across Sydney. Martin personally delivers and sets everything up on site so you are ready to cook before he leaves. No flat-pack assembly. No courier drop-off at the front door.
Is the Masterbuilt Gravity Series better than a pellet smoker?
It depends on what you value. The Gravity Series uses real charcoal, which produces stronger and more authentic smoke flavour than wood pellets. It also reaches higher searing temperatures, up to 371°C, which most pellet grills cannot match. Pellet grills are generally easier to operate and refuel. If genuine charcoal flavour and searing capability matter to you, the Gravity Series is the stronger choice. If convenience and set-and-forget simplicity are the priority, a pellet grill may suit you better. Our gas vs charcoal guide on the BBQ Republic blog goes into more detail.
Can I see the Masterbuilt Gravity Series in person before buying?
Yes. BBQ Republic has a showroom in Wetherill Park, Sydney where you can see the Masterbuilt Gravity Series on display. We cook on charcoal and can give you a straight answer on which model suits your setup. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm.
