Masterbuilt Charcoal and Fuel

Charcoal and wood products for the Masterbuilt Gravity Series, stocked by an authorised Masterbuilt dealer. The Gravity Series runs on standard lump charcoal or briquettes fed through its gravity-fed hopper. Add wood chunks alongside your charcoal for real smoke flavour without a dedicated offset. We stock the fuels we actually use in our own Gravity Series smokers. See the Masterbuilt Australia hub or shop Masterbuilt smokers.

Masterbuilt Compatible Fuel

The Right Fuel for the Gravity Series.

The Gravity Series hopper accepts standard charcoal briquettes and lump charcoal. The fuel you choose directly affects heat consistency, cook time, and smoke flavour.

Gravity Series Compatible

The Gravity Series hopper is designed for standard charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal. Quality charcoal lights faster, maintains stable temperatures, and reduces clinker build-up in the ashbox.

Add Real Smoke Flavour

Drop wood chunks into the charcoal hopper alongside your fuel. Hickory, apple, and cherry wood each produce distinctly different smoke profiles. No separate smoker required.

Up to Temperature Fast

Masterbuilt says the Gravity Series 600 and XT reach 105°C in about 7 minutes (the 1150 in about 9). Quality charcoal sustains your set temperature with less top-up frequency and more consistent digital control throughout a long cook.

Masterbuilt Charcoal FAQs

Which charcoal works best in the Gravity Series?

The Gravity Series runs on both lump charcoal and briquettes. Lump charcoal lights faster, burns hotter and produces less ash. Briquettes burn longer and more consistently at lower temperatures, so they suit long low and slow cooks with fewer hopper reloads.

Do I have to use Masterbuilt charcoal?

No. You can use other lump charcoal or plain briquettes. Size matters in a gravity fed hopper: pieces that are too large can bridge and interrupt the feed, and charcoal that is too fine can clog the grate. Masterbuilt Lumpwood Charcoal is the safest choice for consistent results.

Can I add wood chunks?

Yes. Wood chunks can go into the charcoal hopper alongside your charcoal for extra smoke flavour. Use chunks rather than chips, as chips burn off too quickly in the hopper.

How do I light the hopper?

Load charcoal into the hopper, place one or two natural firestarters at the bottom of the firebox through the ashbox door and light them. Close the ashbox door, power on the unit and set your target temperature on the control panel or in the Masterbuilt app. Never use lighter fluid.
