We stock and use Masterbuilt Lumpwood Charcoal ourselves at the showroom. It is the fuel we recommend to customers running the Masterbuilt Gravity Series, and it performs just as well in any quality kamado or charcoal smoker. The clean burn and low ash output is genuinely noticeable compared to standard briquettes. You can pick it up from our Wetherill Park showroom at 5 Vicars Place alongside our full range of Masterbuilt, Yoder Smokers, and Big Green Egg equipment.
Key FeaturesClean fuel. Real flavour. Less ash.
100% Natural Hardwood
No binders, no fillers, no chemical additives. Just wood. What goes on the fire is what ends up in the flavour.
Lights Fast, Burns Hot
Lumpwood ignites significantly faster than briquettes and reaches cooking temperature quicker. Less waiting, more cooking.
Low Ash Output
Pure hardwood produces a fraction of the ash that briquettes do. Less cleaning, better airflow, more consistent temperatures throughout the cook.
Full Temperature Range
Runs at 107°C for a 16-hour brisket or pushes past 300°C for a sear. One bag handles every cook in your rotation.
Why serious cooks use lumpwood
Briquettes are compressed charcoal dust held together with binders and fillers. They burn consistently but they also burn dirty, produce more ash, and the binders can introduce off-flavours, particularly noticeable on longer cooks where the meat is exposed to the smoke for hours.
Lumpwood charcoal is pure hardwood carbonised in a kiln. There is nothing in it except wood. It lights faster, burns hotter, produces less ash, and the flavour it contributes is clean and natural. For a long smoke on a brisket or pork shoulder, that difference accumulates over many hours and shows up clearly in the final result.
