    How It Works

    Three Steps to Start Cooking

Most charcoal cookers require manual airflow management and mid-cook refuelling. The Gravity Series 1150 removes both. Load once, set your temperature, and cook without interruption.

    1

    Load the hopper

Fill the GravityFed hopper with lump charcoal or briquettes. The hopper holds up to 5.5 kg of lump charcoal or 8 kg of briquettes and feeds fuel down to the firebox continuously as it burns.

    2

    Light and set your temperature

Insert a pure paraffin fire starter for a clean, chemical-free ignition. Set your target temperature on the digital panel or the Masterbuilt app. The 1150 reaches 107°C in approximately 9 minutes and 371°C in approximately 15 minutes.

    3

    Cook without babysitting

The DigitalFan adjusts airflow automatically to hold your set temperature. No vent adjustment, no reloading mid-cook, no constant monitoring. Monitor up to 4 meat probes via the app from anywhere.

    Cooking Capacity

    Built for Large Gatherings

With 1,150 square inches of total cooking space across the main grate and two porcelain-coated warming racks, the 1150 handles serious volume without compromise.

    Cook Styles

    Temperature Range

Low and slow smoking: 107°C to 150°C
    Indirect roasting: 160°C to 200°C
    Grilling: 200°C to 260°C
High heat searing: 300°C to 371°C

    Key Features

    What Makes the 1150 Work

    GravityFed Charcoal Hopper

Holds up to 5.5 kg of lump charcoal or 8 kg of briquettes. As charcoal burns from the bottom, gravity feeds fresh fuel down from the hopper above. Up to 15 hours of cooking without reloading.

    DigitalFan Temperature Control

A digitally controlled fan manages airflow from the hopper through to the cooking chamber. Set your temperature and the system maintains it automatically across the full 107°C to 371°C range.

Reversible Cast Iron Smoke and Sear Grates

One side optimised for high-heat searing, the other for low-and-slow where moisture retention matters. Cast iron holds and radiates heat evenly and is the preferred surface for serious charcoal cooking.

    FuelSaver Dual-Wall Insulation

Dual-wall construction with porcelain-coated interior retains heat, smoke, and moisture inside the cooking chamber. Uses charcoal more efficiently and produces more consistent results across long cooks.

    Masterbuilt App Control

Wi-Fi connected. Set temperature, adjust cook time, monitor up to 4 meat probes simultaneously, receive alerts, and access recipes from your phone. Manage the entire cook from inside the house.

    Two Porcelain-Coated Warming Racks

Sit above the main grate for holding cooked food at temperature, running indirect cooks, or staging items during a larger cook.

    Easy Cleanup

Removable ash bucket below the firebox. Front-access grease cup below the cooking chamber. Both remove and empty quickly after the cook.

    Model Comparison

    Common Questions

    Masterbuilt Gravity Series FAQs

Questions we get asked most before a Gravity Series purchase. Not covered here? Call us or visit the showroom.

How does the GravityFed hopper work?
The GravityFed hopper holds your charcoal in a vertical chamber and uses gravity to feed fuel down into the firebox as it burns. A DigitalFan controls airflow to maintain your set temperature automatically. As coals burn from the bottom, new fuel drops down from above, keeping the fire going for hours without you needing to open the grill or add more charcoal.
Can I use lump charcoal or briquettes?
Both work. Lump charcoal produces a cleaner burn and more authentic smoke flavour. Briquettes burn longer and more consistently. The Gravity Series 600 holds up to 5.4kg of lump charcoal or 8.2kg of briquettes for up to 18 hours. The 1150 holds up to 5.5kg of lump charcoal or 8kg of briquettes for up to 15 hours. You do not need to use Masterbuilt branded charcoal.
What warranty comes with this unit?
Masterbuilt Australia covers the Gravity Series 600 and 1150 for 1 year from the date of purchase, and the Gravity Series XT for 3 years. Register your grill with Masterbuilt and keep your proof of purchase. Paint and rust are not covered. Buying from an authorised dealer like BBQ Republic keeps your warranty valid. If something goes wrong, contact us and we'll help you through Masterbuilt's warranty process.
Do you deliver and assemble this in Sydney?
Yes. Delivery is free across the Sydney metro area on every Masterbuilt Gravity Series smoker we sell, and we assemble it for you for $100. Regional NSW and ACT delivery is $250, plus $100 for assembly. For interstate delivery, contact us for a quote on 0434 010 411.
How do I control the temperature?
Two ways. Set your temperature directly on the digital control panel on the grill, or use the Masterbuilt app on your phone. The app lets you monitor and adjust temperature remotely, track up to 4 meat probes, view a session graph, and receive alerts. Once set, the DigitalFan holds your temperature automatically without any manual vent adjustment.
What can I cook on the Gravity Series?
Everything from low and slow smoking to high-heat searing. Smoke brisket and ribs at 107°C for hours. Sear steaks at up to 371°C. Roast whole chickens, bake, and cook indirect. The reversible cast iron grates give you a flat side for searing and a grooved side for smoking. Compatible accessories include the Masterbuilt Pizza Oven and Rotisserie Kit.
How do I shut down the grill and save unused charcoal?
You do not need to let the charcoal burn out completely. Insert the shutdown slides to cut off the air supply and choke out the fire. Any unused charcoal is saved for your next cook. It typically takes 2 to 4 hours for the remaining charcoal to fully extinguish after shutdown. Turn off the grill via the control panel once the slides are in.
