    Pyralit Poker & Lifter

316 marine-grade stainless steel head. Solid Jarrah hardwood handle. 60cm reach with lifetime warranty.

The Pyralit Poker & Lifter is a coal management tool designed for moving, breaking, and lifting hot charcoal in grills, kamados, fire pits, and fireplaces. The 14cm stainless steel head pairs with a solid 60cm Jarrah hardwood handle, providing long reach that keeps your hands well clear of heat.

Built entirely from 316 marine-grade stainless steel (the same alloy specified in hospitals, breweries, and marine fittings) the tool is designed to live outdoors permanently without rusting, warping, or degrading.

    Why It Is Different

Why the Pyralit Poker Is Built Differently

Most coal pokers and fire tools are mild steel with painted handles, or budget stainless with hollow metal grips. They develop rust at the head within a season. The metal handles conduct heat rapidly. Hollow construction feels insubstantial when applying real leverage to break stuck coals.

The Pyralit Poker & Lifter is built differently throughout. The entire metal portion is 316 marine-grade stainless, which contains molybdenum for superior corrosion resistance against the worst combination a fire tool can face: high heat, alkaline ash residue, and outdoor moisture. The handle is solid Jarrah hardwood (not hollow, not metal, not painted softwood). At approximately 1kg, the weight is balanced between head and handle for controlled coal movement.

The Jarrah handle is intentional. Solid hardwood absorbs vibration when breaking coals and conducts heat slowly, keeping the grip cool during sessions where a metal handle would become uncomfortable to hold. The 32×32mm solid base at the head connection means the tool stays rigid under leverage rather than flexing or failing at the joint.

    Designed To Pair

Why Pair It With the Hero Ignition Unit

    Pyralit Hero Ignition Unit

The two tools work in sequence: light coals with the Hero Unit, then arrange and manage the live coal bed with the Poker & Lifter. Matching solid Jarrah handles tie them together as a cohesive set.

    What It Does

    Four Coal Management Tasks

    Move Coals

Use the flat edge to push or drag coals to new positions. Ideal for setting up a two-zone cook (hot coals on one side, clear on the other) or consolidating coals at the end of a long session.

    Break Coals

Use the poker point to fracture large lump charcoal pieces or separate coals that have fused together during a long burn. The 1kg balanced weight does most of the work.

    Lift & Transfer

Engage the head under coals to lift and transfer hot pieces between zones, top up the bed with fresh charcoal mid-cook, or remove spent coals without disturbing the rest of the fire.

    Ash Removal

Use the flat edge to scrape ash from the bottom of grills, kamados, fire pits, or fireplaces after the fire has cooled. Ready for a fresh setup next cook.

    Warranty Coverage

The Pyralit Poker & Lifter carries a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. If the tool fails during normal use (head separation, stainless cracking, or any structural failure through use rather than abuse), Pyralit replaces it. Warranty claims for tools purchased through BBQ Republic are processed through us as an authorised stockist.

    Care & Maintenance

    Keeping It in Good Condition

    • Allow the tool to cool fully before cleaning. Wipe ash off the head with a dry cloth or brush.
    • For heavy ash buildup, rinse the head under water and wipe dry. The 316 stainless will not rust from water exposure.
    • Jarrah handle: minimal maintenance. If the wood appears dry after extended outdoor exposure, apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil and wipe off the excess.
    • Outdoor storage is fine year-round. The rust-proof construction does not require protective coatings.
    • Avoid soaking the Jarrah handle in water for extended periods.
    Common Questions

    Pyralit Poker & Lifter FAQs

Questions we get asked most before purchase. Not covered here? Call us or visit the showroom.

Why is 316 marine-grade stainless worth the premium over standard stainless?
316 stainless contains molybdenum, which gives it significantly better corrosion resistance than 304 stainless (the grade used in most kitchen appliances and budget tools). In a coal poker context, this matters because the tool is repeatedly exposed to the most corrosive combination possible: high heat, moisture from condensation and rain, and alkaline ash residue. Standard 304 stainless develops surface rust at these stress points over time. 316 resists this degradation, which is why it is specified for hospitals, marine fittings, and breweries where rust contamination is unacceptable.
How does the Pyralit Poker & Lifter complement the Hero Ignition Unit?
They work in sequence. The Hero Ignition Unit lights the charcoal from below using focused airflow. Once the coals are lit and glowing, you remove the Hero Unit and use the Poker & Lifter to spread, arrange, and manage the live coal bed. The matching Jarrah hardwood handles are intentional. Pyralit designed both tools to use the same handle material so they form a cohesive set. Both are stocked at our Wetherill Park showroom.
What specific tasks does the 14cm head design handle?
The poker point breaks apart clumped lump charcoal pieces and separates coals that have fused together during a long burn. The flat edge pushes or drags coals across the fire grate to reposition them, useful for creating a two-zone setup where you consolidate hot coals to one side for direct heat while leaving the other side clear for indirect cooking. The lifting capability picks up individual pieces or small groups of coals to transfer between zones, top up a coal bed with fresh pieces, or remove spent coals.
Why does a solid Jarrah handle perform better than hollow or metal handles on a fire tool?
Solid hardwood absorbs vibration when breaking coals rather than transmitting it to your hand, which is important when applying downward force to stubborn pieces. Solid Jarrah also has low thermal conductivity, meaning heat conducts along it slowly from the metal head end. A metal handle conducts heat rapidly from head to grip, becoming uncomfortable quickly near a hot fire. Hollow handles feel insubstantial under leverage force and can fail at the connection point. Solid Jarrah at 1kg overall creates natural balance without being heavy.
Will the handle get hot during extended use near a fire?
The 60cm length keeps your hand well away from the fire during most tasks. The Jarrah handle resists heat transfer from the stainless head and stays cool during brief coal management operations. During prolonged use near a large open fire where radiant heat is intense (extended campfire sessions or large fire pit management) the handle will warm up over time. For extended sessions, use heat-resistant BBQ gloves.
Is this tool suitable for use inside a Big Green Egg or other kamado?
Yes. The 60cm length provides reach to manage the kamado fire ring and charcoal bed through the open dome without excessive leaning. The tool suits tasks like redistributing charcoal for two-zone cooking in a Large or XL Big Green Egg, adding fresh lump charcoal during a long cook without disturbing the fire bed significantly, and removing ash buildup from below the fire grate.
How do you create a two-zone charcoal setup using this poker?
Once the charcoal is fully lit, use the flat edge to push all the live coals to one side of the grill or fire pit floor, leaving the other side clear. The coal side becomes your direct high-heat zone for searing. The empty side receives convective heat and becomes your indirect zone for slower cooking and resting. Use the poker point to reposition individual pieces that resist movement, and the lifting capability to pick up and transfer pieces that are in the wrong position. Once the two zones are established, reposition food between zones as needed during the cook.
