Gas has been my longest cooking format. More than 20 years on it, longer than charcoal, longer than pellet, longer than kamado. In that time I have owned a Weber Q, a Weber Genesis, and now cook on Coleman at our Wetherill Park showroom regularly. That experience is what this guide is built from.
Coleman is not a brand most people walk in asking for by name. They come in looking at gas grills and leave asking more questions about Coleman than they expected. Once you understand what Flare-Free Technology actually does, and you see the build quality in person, it tends to change the conversation.
We stock the full Coleman Revolution range and the Pro Series 5-Burner at BBQ Republic. All models are on display in our Wetherill Park Showroom.

The Problem With Most Gas Grills
Fat fires are something most gas grill owners have experienced and most have come to accept as part of cooking on gas. A fat fire happens when grease drips directly onto the burner tubes or the flavoriser bars below the cooking grids, ignites, and sends a burst of flame up through the food above it. The result is charred surfaces, flare-up smoke, and uneven cooking that you did not ask for.
I had fat fires on my Weber Q. I had fat fires on my Weber Genesis. Both grills delivered consistent results and I have nothing against either brand, but the grease management on both was a limitation I worked around rather than one that was solved by the design.
Coleman's Flare-Free Technology is a genuine engineering solution to this problem, not a marketing claim. It is the reason we stock Coleman and the reason I recommend it to buyers who have experienced the same frustration on other gas grills.
How Flare-Free Technology Works
Coleman's Flare-Free Technology uses a double-stacked cooking grate system to capture and redirect grease away from the burners before it can ignite. The design captures and redirects 75% more grease away from the flames compared to a standard single-grate setup. The grease that is captured does not pool in the cookbox. It drains forward through a dedicated channel to a removable front-access cup that pulls out for easy emptying and cleaning.
The practical result of this system across a cook is less smoke from burning fat, more even cooking without the temperature spike of a fat fire, and a significantly cleaner cookbox after the cook is done. It also reduces the risk of a serious grease fire in the cookbox, which is a real hazard on grills where grease accumulates around the burner tubes over time.
Gas cooking looks simple from the outside. And in many ways it is. But getting consistent results without flare-ups and uneven charring is harder than it looks, particularly on longer cooks or cuts with more fat. The Coleman design makes that consistency easier to achieve, which matters both for everyday weeknight cooks and for anything more serious.
The Coleman Range We Stock
Coleman produces the Revolution range in three configurations and the Pro Series 5-Burner as a standalone model. Within the Revolution range, the 2-Burner and 4-Burner both come in Black Matte and Black Gloss finishes at the same price. The Dual Fuel is available in both finishes as well.
Revolution 2-Burner: $999

Two independent 304 stainless steel burners producing 31.1 MJ combined. 2,065 cm² main cooking surface plus a 648 cm² warming rack. The cooking surface is split evenly between a double-sided hotplate and a porcelain-coated cast iron grill grate. The hotplate is smooth on one side and ridged on the other, giving you the right surface for eggs, onions, and delicate proteins on the flat side and proper char marks on the ridged side. Flare-Free Technology throughout. Weather-resistant Instastart ignition. Folding side shelves. Double-layer hood. Cabinet storage for your LPG bottle. Compatible with the Coleman Outdoor Modular System. Available in Black Matte and Black Gloss. 5-year warranty.
The 50/50 hotplate and grill grate split differs from the one-third/two-thirds configuration on the larger Revolution models. On the 2-Burner you have equal surface on each, which suits households who use the hotplate as frequently as the grill. Two independent burners give you basic zone control, enough to keep one side lower while searing on the other.
The folding side shelves keep the footprint compact when not in use, making this model well suited to balconies, smaller patios, and outdoor spaces where a larger 4-burner grill would be too much. The double-layer hood is not a cosmetic detail. The air gap between the two layers insulates the cooking chamber, helping maintain consistent temperatures and recovering heat faster after you lift the lid. The exterior also stays cooler to the touch than a single-skin hood.
The 2-Burner handles 3 to 4 people comfortably. If you regularly cook for more than that, step up to the 4-Burner.
Revolution 4-Burner with Side Burner: $1,399

Four independent 304 stainless steel burners producing 55.5 MJ total heat output. 3,097 cm² main cooking surface plus a 924 cm² warming rack. The cooking surface is split one-third double-sided hotplate and two-thirds porcelain-coated cast iron grill grate. The hotplate is smooth on one side and ridged on the other. Side burner included. Flare-Free Technology throughout. Weather-resistant Instastart ignition. Double-layer hood. Cabinet storage. Compatible with the Coleman Outdoor Modular System. Available in Black Matte and Black Gloss. 5-year warranty.
Four independent burners give you genuine zone control across the full cooking surface. Run the hotplate side low for onions and eggs while the grill side is at searing heat. Hold cooked proteins on the warming rack while finishing the next batch. The 3,097 cm² main surface is enough to comfortably cook for a family or a group in a single session without moving things around constantly.
The side burner operates independently from the main cooking surface and does not compete with it for heat. Use it for boiling corn, reducing a sauce, or keeping a pot warm while the main grill is running flat out. It handles tasks that would otherwise require a second heat source or going back inside to the kitchen.
The warming rack at 924 cm² is a practical addition that most buyers underestimate. It runs at a lower temperature than the main surface and is well suited to resting cooked meat, keeping bread warm, or slow-cooking items that need indirect heat without the intensity of the main burners directly below.
This is the model most buyers end up choosing after seeing the full range. The combination of zone control, side burner, split cooking surface, and cabinet storage covers the full scope of everyday outdoor cooking without requiring a larger footprint.
Revolution Dual Fuel: $2,199

The Revolution Dual Fuel is the most unique BBQ in the Coleman range and one of the most genuinely versatile grills we stock. It combines a full-size gas grill and a full-size charcoal kettle in a single unit, side by side, with both available to cook on simultaneously.
The gas side delivers 3,036 cm² of cooking surface with Flare-Free Technology, three 304 stainless steel burners producing 35.7 MJ, and the same one-third hotplate, two-thirds grill grate split as the rest of the Revolution range. The charcoal side is a 57 cm diameter kettle with adjustable vent and exhaust dampers for temperature control and 2,568 cm² of cooking surface.
The feature that makes the charcoal side genuinely practical is the gas-assist ignition. A 10.5 MJ gas burner lights the charcoal without lighter fluid or fire starters, cutting lighting time from the usual 20 to 30 minutes down to approximately 10 to 15 minutes. You get the flavour of charcoal without the preparation overhead that puts a lot of people off using it regularly.
In practice the Dual Fuel changes how you cook for a group. Use the gas side for proteins that benefit from the Flare-Free system and precise heat control. Use the charcoal side for anything where you want smoke flavour and traditional charcoal results. Run both simultaneously when you are cooking for a large group and need every centimetre of cooking surface. The total combined output across both sides is 46.2 MJ.
The Dual Fuel is also compatible with the Coleman Outdoor Modular System, which allows you to attach storage, fridge, and sink modules to either side of the unit, making it the foundation of a serious modular outdoor cooking setup without the cost of a full built-in kitchen.
If you have been wanting charcoal flavour without giving up the convenience of gas, or if you regularly cook for large groups and want maximum flexibility in a single unit, the Revolution Dual Fuel is a genuinely compelling option. Available in Black Matte and Black Gloss. 5-year warranty.
Pro Series 5-Burner on Cart: $2,199

Five independent 304 stainless steel burners delivering 75 MJ/h across the main cooking surface, plus a dedicated 11.9 MJ/h wok burner, for a combined total of 86.9 MJ/h. 5,174 cm² total cooking area. Die-cast aluminium burner box. Porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grates. Double-walled porcelain enamel lid. One-third double-sided hotplate included as standard, with a smooth side and a ridged side. Full cart configuration. Compatible with the Coleman Outdoor Modular System. Matte black finish. 5-year warranty.
The Pro Series is a step above the Revolution range in construction and output. The die-cast aluminium burner box retains and distributes heat more efficiently than a standard sheet steel cookbox. The double-walled porcelain enamel lid insulates the cooking chamber to maintain consistent temperatures when the hood is closed, which matters particularly on longer roasting cooks where you want stable heat throughout.
The wok burner is the feature that sets the Pro Series apart from every other model in the Coleman range. At 11.9 MJ/h it delivers the concentrated high heat that stir-frying, rapid boiling, and high-heat searing require. This is not a standard side burner with a different name. It is a purpose-built high-output burner designed for tasks that need intense, focused heat in a way that a standard flat burner cannot produce.
At 5,174 cm² the Pro Series has significantly more cooking area than any other Coleman model. Five independently controlled main burners give you the most zone flexibility in the range, allowing you to run multiple heat levels simultaneously across a large cooking surface. The one-third hotplate and two-thirds grill grate split is standard across the main surface, giving you the same split cooking capability as the Revolution models at a larger scale.
The Pro Series is also the strongest foundation for a Coleman Outdoor Modular System outdoor kitchen. The modular system allows you to attach side modules including fridges, sinks, storage, and prep surfaces to either side of the grill. If you want a serious freestanding BBQ now with the option to build it into a complete outdoor cooking station over time, the Pro Series is the right starting point.
Which Coleman Should You Buy?
The decision comes down to how many people you cook for regularly and whether a natural gas connection is part of your setup.
For a couple or small family cooking most days, the Revolution 2-Burner at $999 is the right size. It is compact, well-built, and the Flare-Free system means it performs better than most grills twice the price when it comes to consistent results without flare-ups.
For families and regular entertaining, the Revolution 4-Burner with Side Burner at $1,399 is where most buyers land and for good reason. The combination of zone control, side burner, hotplate and grill grate split, and the cabinet storage makes it the most complete everyday gas grill in the range.
For natural gas connections or dual fuel flexibility, the Revolution Dual Fuel at $2,199 is the answer. Same cooking performance, additional fuel flexibility.
For large groups and frequent entertaining, the Pro Series 5-Burner at $2,199 gives you the most cooking space and the most burner control in the range.

Coleman vs Broil King: How They Sit in Our Range
We stock both Coleman and Broil King at BBQ Republic and they serve different buyers.
Coleman is the everyday gas grill. Excellent build quality for the price, genuinely innovative grease management, and a range that covers compact to full-size cooking without requiring a large budget. For buyers who want a serious gas grill for regular family use, Coleman is the answer.
Broil King is the premium gas grill. The Regal and Imperial ranges use patented Dual-Tube burners, the Flav-R-Wave vaporisation system, and iQue smart control. The Regal Q 590 Pro starts at $5,499. It is a different level of investment for a buyer who wants competition-grade performance from a gas grill and is prepared to pay for it.
Both brands are on display in our showroom. If you are deciding between the two, come in and see them side by side.

A Note on Gas Cooking
Gas is the format I have cooked on longest, and there is something worth saying honestly before you buy any gas grill.
Gas cooking looks simple. And in many ways it is. You turn a knob, the burner lights, you put food on the grill. But getting consistent, quality results on a gas grill takes practice and attention in ways that are easy to underestimate. Heat management across zones, knowing when to use the hotplate versus the grill grate, understanding how your specific grill behaves at different temperatures, these are things you learn over time.
The Coleman Flare-Free system removes one of the most common sources of inconsistency, which is fat fires disrupting the cook unexpectedly. But the skill of cooking well on gas is still something you build through experience. The grill makes it easier. The cook makes it good.
