Broil King Buyer's Guide: Regal vs Imperial, 590 vs 690 Explained

Broil King Regal 690

Most people who come into the showroom asking about gas grills have not heard of Broil King. They come in looking for a Weber or Beefeater and leave asking more questions about the Broil King range than anything else on the floor.

That is not by accident. Once you understand what Dual-Tube burners and the Flav-R-Wave system actually do, and you compare the build quality side by side with anything else in the price range, it tends to change the conversation.

We stock the Broil King Regal and Imperial ranges at BBQ Republic. This guide covers every model we carry, what separates them from each other, and which one makes sense for your setup. All prices are current from our live inventory.

The Two Decisions You Need to Make

The Broil King range at BBQ Republic splits into two questions. Answer these and the model selection gets straightforward.

Freestanding or built-in? The Regal range sits on a cart and can go anywhere on your deck or patio. We deliver and install it. The Imperial range is designed to integrate permanently into an outdoor kitchen island. We deliver it, but installation requires a licensed tradesperson for the gas connection and fit-out.

Five burners or six? Within each range, you choose between the 590 (five burner) and 690 (six burner). The extra burner matters less than what comes with it. In the Imperial range, the step from 590 to 690 also gives you two completely separate independent cookboxes instead of one, which fundamentally changes what you can cook simultaneously.

What Makes Broil King Different

Before getting into the individual models, it is worth understanding the two features that set Broil King apart from most gas grills at any price. These are not marketing language. They change how the grill performs.

Dual-Tube Burners

Most gas grill burners carry a single flame channel. Broil King's patented Dual-Tube burners carry two parallel flame channels per burner, producing a broader and more consistent heat spread across the cooking grid above. The practical result is more even cooking across the full surface without the hot and cold zones that are common on single-tube burner grills. Each burner operates independently via Linear-Flow valves with 180 degrees of precision control.

Flav-R-Wave Vaporisation System

The 304 stainless steel Flav-R-Wave panels sit between the burners and the cooking grids. When fat and juices drip during cooking, the Flav-R-Wave panels intercept them before they reach the burner tubes. Rather than flaring up or burning off, the drippings vaporise across the panel surface and rise back into the food as flavour smoke. This is the mechanism that closes the gap between gas and charcoal results. It also protects the burner tubes from grease buildup, which matters for long-term performance and easier maintenance.

iQue Smart Control

All four models in our range include Broil King's iQue Wi-Fi and Bluetooth smart control. Monitor temperatures, adjust cooking zones, access preset modes for smoke, roast, and grill, and receive alerts during a cook from the Broil King Grilling App on your phone. Two electronic meat probes connect to the system to monitor internal food temperature alongside grill temperature.

15-Year Warranty

Every Broil King model we stock carries a 15-year warranty - among the strongest in the gas grill category. As an authorised Broil King dealer, all warranty claims for grills purchased through BBQ Republic are handled directly through us.

The Regal Range: Freestanding Gas Grills

The Regal range is Broil King's freestanding line. Each model sits on a stainless steel cart with a pull-out tank drawer. Free delivery and professional installation across Sydney is included on both Regal models.

Regal Q 590 Pro: $5,499

  • Five Dual-Tube burners producing 55,000 BTU across the main cooking surface
  • 995 sq-in total cooking area with dual Thermo-Flow stainless steel cookboxes
  • 13,000 BTU side burner and 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie burner with rotisserie kit included
  • Extra heavy V-shaped stainless steel cooking grids
  • iQue smart control with two meat probes
  • Sure-Lite electronic ignition, illuminated control knobs and USB-LED lighting
  • 15-year warranty

The Regal Q 590 Pro is the starting point for buyers who want a serious freestanding gas grill with real cooking capability. Five burners gives you plenty of zone control for everyday grilling and entertaining, and the dual cookboxes let you run different heat levels simultaneously. It is the right choice if you cook for families and regular groups and want a grill you will not need to replace.

Regal Q 690 Pro: $6,999

Broil King Regal 690 grill with multiple knobs on a white background

  • Six Dual-Tube burners producing 60,000 BTU
  • 1,030 sq-in total cooking area with dual Thermo-Flow stainless steel cookboxes
  • 10,000 BTU infrared side burner and 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie burner with kit included
  • Extra heavy V-shaped stainless steel cooking grids
  • iQue smart control with two meat probes
  • Sure-Lite electronic ignition, illuminated control knobs and removable handle light
  • Pull-out tank drawer

The step from 590 to 690 in the Regal range gives you one additional burner, a larger total cooking area, and an infrared side burner rather than a standard side burner. The infrared side burner runs hotter and is better suited for high-heat tasks like searing proteins or quickly boiling large pots. For buyers who entertain regularly and want the most capable freestanding Broil King we stock, the 690 Pro is the grill.

Imperial QS 690 BI: $7,199

Broil King grill on a white background

  • Six Dual-Tube burners producing 60,000 BTU
  • 1,030 sq-in total cooking area across two completely separate independent cookboxes
  • 13,000 BTU top-ported side burner and 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie burner with kit included
  • Professional cast stainless steel cooking grids and Flav-R-Wave vaporisation system
  • iQue smart control with two meat probes
  • Sure-Lite electronic ignition, built-in cookbox and control knob lighting
  • Roll-action lids with cast aluminium end caps
  • 304 stainless steel cabinet with four storage drawers
  • 15-year warranty

The defining feature of the Imperial QS 690 BI is the dual independent cookbox configuration. Two completely separate 304 stainless steel cookboxes sit side by side within the cabinet, each with its own lid, its own burners, and its own thermal environment. They are not a single cooking chamber divided by a deflector. They are genuinely independent.

This means you can run two different temperatures simultaneously without compromise. Sear at full heat in one cookbox while the other holds a steady roasting temperature. For a permanent outdoor kitchen where the grill is the primary cooking station, this changes what is possible in a way that a single-cookbox grill cannot match. The 690 BI also adds four storage drawers within the cabinet structure.
