What Is the Masterbuilt Gravity Series?
The Masterbuilt Gravity Series is a charcoal smoker and grill that uses a gravity-fed hopper to deliver fuel automatically to the firebox. You load lump charcoal or briquettes into the hopper, light a small amount of starter charcoal at the base, and set your target temperature on the digital controller. A DigitalFan system manages airflow automatically to hold that temperature throughout the cook. As the charcoal at the base burns, gravity feeds more from the hopper above.
The result is genuine charcoal flavour and genuine charcoal heat with set-and-forget convenience. You are not managing a fire manually. You are not adjusting vents or adding fuel. The Gravity Series handles the fire management so you can focus on the cook.
The temperature range runs from 107 degrees Celsius for low-and-slow smoking all the way to 370 degrees Celsius for direct searing. This is the full range of charcoal cooking on a single unit: brisket at 110C overnight, steaks at 370C for a proper crust. Most pellet smokers do not reach that upper temperature range. The Gravity Series does because it runs on real charcoal.
This is what separates the Gravity Series from pellet smokers at a similar price point. Pellet smokers produce excellent wood smoke flavour. The Gravity Series produces charcoal flavour: the robust, direct smoke character that comes from fat and juices dripping onto live coals. If you have eaten at a serious charcoal restaurant and wondered how to replicate those results at home with digital control, the Gravity Series is the answer.

Shop Gravity Series 1150Gravity Series 600 vs 1150: Which Should You Buy?

| Feature | Gravity Series 600 | Gravity Series 1150 |
|---|---|---|
| Total cooking area | 742 sq in | 1,148 sq in |
| Temperature range | 107C to 370C | 107C to 370C |
| Digital controller | Yes | Yes |
| Wireless meat probe | Yes | Yes |
| Hopper size | Standard | Larger (longer cooks) |
| Best for | Families, regular cooks | Large groups, overnight cooks |
Buy the 600 if: you cook for up to six people, you run standard session lengths of four to eight hours, and the entry price point matters. The 600 covers the full range of what most home cooks do on a charcoal smoker.
Buy the 1150 if: you cook for large groups regularly, you run long overnight cooks like whole brisket or pork shoulder at 12-18 hours, or you want the reassurance of a larger hopper that does not need refilling mid-cook. The larger cooking area is genuinely useful if you are cooking full packer briskets or multiple racks of ribs simultaneously.

What Charcoal to Use

The Gravity Series is designed to run on lump charcoal or briquettes. Both work. Lump charcoal lights faster, burns hotter, and produces less ash. Briquettes burn more consistently and produce more predictable results for long cooks but generate more ash and can restrict airflow if ash builds up in the firebox during extended sessions.
For most cooks on the Gravity Series we recommend lump charcoal. The Gravity Series firebox handles lump charcoal's irregular piece sizes well, and the lower ash production keeps the airflow clean throughout long sessions. We stock Argie Grillz Premium Argentinian Lumpwood Charcoal and Lumber Jack charcoal at our Wetherill Park showroom - both are well-suited to the Gravity Series.
Avoid charcoal infused with lighter fluid in the Gravity Series. The accelerant in self-lighting charcoal produces chemical flavours that transfer directly to your food. Use a chimney starter or the Masterbuilt fire starter method to light the initial charcoal at the base of the hopper.
Why Buy Through BBQ Republic in Sydney

We are a dedicated BBQ retailer based in Wetherill Park. We are not a general outdoor leisure store or a large-format retailer with a BBQ aisle. BBQ is the only thing we sell, which means the product knowledge and the service you get from us is specific to what you are buying.
The Masterbuilt Gravity Series is a technical product. Setting it up correctly, understanding the temperature control system, knowing how to load the hopper and manage the first cook - these are things that benefit from a conversation with someone who has used the product rather than a warehouse pickup. We handle every delivery ourselves. We are available by phone before and after the sale.
We also stock the full range of charcoal, fire starters, and accessories that the Gravity Series needs. You do not need to source everything separately. Pick up the grill and the fuel in one order.
Delivery Across Sydney
We deliver the Masterbuilt Gravity Series across Sydney metro. Free delivery is included on all orders. We do not use couriers for grill deliveries. Martin handles Sydney metro deliveries personally, which means the grill arrives with someone who knows the product and can answer questions on the spot.
Delivery timing varies by location and availability. Call us on 0434 010 411 before ordering if you have a specific delivery date in mind and we will confirm availability.
