    3-Wood BlendBlack Oak + Hickory + Mesquite
    12.7kg BagPellet Grill Hopper Fuel
    100% HardwoodNo Oak Filler, Food-Grade
    GMG-BrandedMade for GMG Pellet Grills

Green Mountain Grills Premium Texas Blend Pellets are the bold-smoke, red-meat hardwood blend designed for Texas-style BBQ. A precise three-wood mix of Black Oak (the clean burning base), Hickory (the classic Texas BBQ smoke), and a hint of Mesquite (for the unmistakable Lone Star State character). 12.7kg of pellet grill hopper fuel, sized for serious cooks running brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork shoulder, and any cook where you want assertive smoke flavour to lead.

Manufactured by Green Mountain Grills and sold by BBQ Republic as an authorised GMG Australia stockist. Manufacturer-tuned for GMG pellet grill PID controllers (Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie Prime Plus, Peak Prime 2.0) but compatible with every commercial 6mm pellet grill on the Australian market. Pair Texas Blend with brisket and beef. For chicken, turkey and other white meats, the milder BBQr's Delight Contest Mix Cherry/Pecan blend is a more natural fit: details below.

12.7kg pellet bags are pellet grill fuel, not smoke tube flavour bags

GMG Texas Blend is sized as primary pellet grill hopper fuel. Both pellet grill fuel and smoke tube flavour bags are wood pellets, but they have different jobs:

    This 12.7kg bag is for

Filling the hopper of your pellet grill as primary cooking fuel. GMG Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie Prime Plus, Peak Prime 2.0, plus Yoder YS480, YS640, YS1500, Traeger, Pit Boss, Z Grills, MAK, RecTeq, and any other pellet grill that accepts standard 6mm food-grade hardwood pellets. Sized for full cook sessions: 12-hour brisket, multi-rack rib cook, competition prep weekend, plus everyday weeknight cooking. Approximately 25 hours of low-and-slow burn (110°C) or 12 hours of higher-heat cooking (180°C) per bag.

This 12.7kg bag is not for

Smoke tubes, smoker boxes or cold-smoking applications. For those uses, BBQr's Delight 450g flavour bags (Cherry, Pecan, Hickory, Mesquite, Apple, Sugar Maple) are the right format and the right price per gram. Yes you can scoop GMG Texas Blend into a smoke tube, but you are paying pellet grill fuel pricing for tube quantities. Buy the format that matches the job.

Owner's Note: My Showroom Brisket Pellet

This is the pellet I run on the showroom GMG for any brisket or beef cook.

For my personal Yoder YS640 I cook on BBQr's Delight pellets. I have written about why elsewhere. But when I run a brisket demo on our showroom GMG Peak Prime 2.0, or when a customer comes in asking about Texas-style bold smoke flavour for a brisket cook, Texas Blend is the pellet I reach for first.

The reason is the blend composition. Texas Blend is a deliberate three-wood mix: Black Oak as the clean-burning base (holds the heat with consistent BTU output), Hickory as the dominant smoke note (the Texas-style bacon-savoury smoke that pairs with beef), and a hint of Mesquite for the Lone Star State character without the harshness of pure mesquite. The result on a brisket cook is a deep mahogany bark, an unmistakable beef-friendly smoke profile, and a finished product that tastes like Texas BBQ rather than competition white-meat BBQ.

The other reason I keep this pellet in stock is the GMG grill compatibility story. Texas Blend is manufactured by Green Mountain Grills specifically for their pellet grills. The pellet dimensions, density, and burn rate are tuned to GMG's auger and PID controller. If you own a GMG Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie Prime Plus, or Peak Prime 2.0, this is the manufacturer-matched pellet. It works flawlessly in any other 6mm pellet grill too, but the GMG-on-GMG combination is a noticeably tight system.

For everyday weeknight cooks and competition-style white meats (chicken thighs, turkey, pork shoulder, ribs with mahogany finish), the milder BBQr's Delight Contest Mix Cherry/Pecan blend remains my recommendation. The two pellets are complementary, not competing. Serious cooks should keep both bags on hand and choose based on the cook.

    The Three-Wood Texas Blend Explained

What each hardwood contributes to the cook.

Texas Blend is a deliberate composition of three purpose-selected hardwoods. Each wood does something the others cannot, and the combination is the reason this pellet produces the unmistakable Texas BBQ profile:

    The Foundation Black Oak

    Clean burning, holds the heat.

Black Oak is the workhorse base wood in serious Texas BBQ. It produces a clean, mild smoke profile and holds heat output consistently across long cooks. Black Oak is what lets a pellet grill PID controller hold a steady 110°C across a 14-hour brisket without temperature swings. The Texas Blend uses Black Oak (the food-grade premium oak species) rather than the cheaper red oak filler found in budget pellets.

    The Dominant Note Hickory

    The classic Texas smoke flavour.

Hickory is the signature American BBQ smoke wood. It contributes the deep, bacon-savoury smoke profile that defines Central Texas brisket and Memphis-style pulled pork. Hickory is assertive: too much by itself becomes overwhelming on a long cook. In the Texas Blend, hickory sits at a balanced percentage that delivers the dominant flavour note without overpowering the meat.

The Lone Star Accent Mesquite (Hint)

    The unmistakable Texas character.

Mesquite is the most assertive of the American BBQ smoke woods, with a unique earthy, slightly herbal character associated with West Texas and northern Mexican cooking. Pure mesquite is too aggressive for most cooks. The Texas Blend uses just a hint, enough to add the unmistakable Lone Star accent without dominating the cook or producing the bitter notes that pure mesquite delivers on long cooks.

    Choosing the Right Pellet

Texas Blend vs BBQr's Delight Contest Mix: how to decide.

BBQ Republic stocks both pellets because they do different jobs. Neither is "better" than the other: they are designed for opposite ends of the smoke flavour spectrum. The honest framing on which to buy first:

    GMG Texas Blend (this product)

    $50 : 12.7kg : Bold smoke profile

    • Blend: Black Oak + Hickory + Mesquite
    • Smoke profile: Bold, assertive, Texas-style
    • Best for: Brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork (bold smoke), smoked steak, beef short ribs
    • The pellet for: Texas-style BBQ, red meat heavy cooks, anyone who wants smoke to lead the flavour

    BBQr's Delight Contest Mix

    $42.95 : 9kg : Mild smoke profile

    • Blend: Cherry + Pecan (50/50)
    • Smoke profile: Mild, sweet, competition-style
    • Best for: Chicken, turkey, pork shoulder (sweet finish), ribs with mahogany colour, white meat protein
    • The pellet for: Competition white-meat cooks, mahogany finish presentation, mild smoke profile
Bottom line: If your next cook is brisket or beef, the Texas Blend is the right pellet. If it is chicken or turkey, the BBQr's Delight Contest Mix is the right pellet. Serious BBQ cooks keep both bags on hand and choose based on the protein. Both are in stock at the Wetherill Park showroom.
    Why a GMG-Branded Pellet

Manufacturer-matched pellets are tuned to the grill.

GMG manufactures Texas Blend specifically for use in Green Mountain Grills pellet grills. Pellet grill manufacturers face a real engineering challenge: the auger feed rate and the PID temperature controller assume a specific pellet density and burn rate. Pellets that vary in density (cheap oak-filler pellets, or pellets with inconsistent moisture content) cause temperature swings and unpredictable burn behaviour. GMG's solution is to manufacture pellets to a known specification. The advantages flow naturally:

    PID-Tuned Burn Rate

Texas Blend pellets are manufactured to the density and moisture specification that GMG's PID controllers expect. The result is tighter temperature holds and faster recovery after lid openings on a GMG Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie, or Peak.

    Auger-Friendly Dimensions

Standard 6mm food-grade pellet diameter. Length and crush resistance are within the tolerance bands GMG's auger feed mechanism is designed for. No jams, no inconsistent feed rates.

    Low Ash Production

Less than 1% ash content. GMG fire pots stay cleaner for longer between vacuuming, and burn behaviour stays consistent across the full bag without ash buildup affecting airflow.

    Universal 6mm Compatibility

Despite being manufactured for GMG, Texas Blend works in every commercial pellet grill on the Australian market: Yoder YS480/YS640/YS1500, Traeger, Pit Boss, Z Grills, MAK, RecTeq. The 6mm standard is universal.

    Three-Wood Texas Blend

Black Oak, Hickory and a hint of Mesquite. The signature Texas BBQ smoke profile: bold, smoky, beef-friendly. Designed for brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork and any red meat cook where smoke leads the flavour.

    100% Premium Hardwood

No oak filler. No binders. No chemical additives. Every pellet in the bag is 100% food-grade hardwood, manufactured by GMG to a known specification for pellet grill use.

    GMG-Tuned Burn Rate

Manufactured to the density and moisture specification GMG's PID controllers expect. Tighter temperature holds, faster recovery after lid openings, low ash production across the full 12.7kg bag.

12.7kg Bag : Pellet Grill Hopper Fuel

Standard 6mm food-grade pellet diameter, compatible with every commercial pellet grill on the Australian market. Approximately 25 hours of low-and-slow burn or 12 hours of higher-heat cooking.

When Texas Blend Is the Right Pellet

The bold-smoke specialist for serious red-meat cooks.

Texas Blend earns its place in the BBQ Republic pellet range by doing one thing exceptionally well: delivering the bold, smoky, beef-friendly flavour profile that defines Texas-style BBQ. Brisket cooks come out with a deep mahogany bark and that unmistakable hickory-forward smoke that Central Texas BBQ joints have built their reputations on. Pulled pork shoulder takes on a smoke-heavy character that contrasts beautifully with a vinegar sauce. Beef ribs develop the kind of smoke ring that wins competitions.

The Texas Blend is also a workhorse pellet for everyday cooks who prefer assertive smoke flavour. If your default cooking style leans toward beef, lamb, dark-meat pork, and smoke-forward proteins, this pellet handles your daily cooking without needing to swap to a milder blend. Many BBQ Republic GMG customers run Texas Blend as their default everyday pellet and only switch to Fruitwood Blend or BBQr's Delight Contest Mix when they have a chicken or turkey cook planned.

For mild smoke profiles on white meat (delicate chicken cooks, brined turkey for Christmas, pork tenderloin), the Texas Blend can be overwhelming. The hickory dominance and mesquite accent build up quickly across long cooks on smaller proteins. For those cooks, the milder BBQr's Delight Contest Mix Cherry/Pecan blend produces a more refined finish. Both pellets have their place on a serious cook's pellet shelf.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is GMG Texas Blend?
GMG Texas Blend is a premium hardwood pellet grill fuel manufactured by Green Mountain Grills. It is a three-wood blend of Black Oak (the clean-burning base), Hickory (the dominant smoke note), and a hint of Mesquite (the Lone Star accent), designed for Texas-style BBQ cooks. The 12.7kg bag is sized for filling the hopper of any 6mm-compatible pellet grill. The blend produces an assertive, beef-friendly smoke profile particularly suited to brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork, and any cook where bold smoke flavour leads.
What is the exact wood ratio in the Texas Blend?
Green Mountain Grills does not publicly disclose the exact ratio, but the blend is composed of Black Oak as the dominant base wood for clean burning and heat consistency, Hickory as the dominant flavour note for the classic Texas BBQ smoke profile, and a smaller percentage of Mesquite for the unmistakable Lone Star State character without overwhelming the cook. All three woods are 100% food-grade hardwood with no oak filler beyond the named Black Oak component.
Is the Texas Blend only for GMG pellet grills?
No. The Texas Blend is manufactured by GMG to a specification tuned for their pellet grills (Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie Prime Plus, Peak Prime 2.0 WiFi), but the 6mm food-grade pellet standard is universal. Texas Blend works in every commercial pellet grill on the Australian market including Yoder YS480, YS640, YS1500, Traeger Pro, Ironwood, Timberline, Pit Boss, Z Grills, MAK, RecTeq, and similar brands. GMG owners gain the slight additional benefit of manufacturer-matched pellet specification, but all 6mm pellet grill owners can use this pellet without issue.
GMG Texas Blend vs BBQr's Delight Contest Mix: which should I buy?
Honest answer: it depends on what you cook. The two pellets are designed for opposite ends of the smoke flavour spectrum. Buy GMG Texas Blend for: brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork (bold smoke version), smoked steaks, lamb cooks, and any cook where you want assertive smoke flavour to dominate. Buy BBQr's Delight Contest Mix for: chicken thighs, turkey, pork shoulder (sweet finish), ribs with mahogany competition colour, and any white-meat cook where you want a milder smoke profile. Many serious cooks own both bags and switch based on the protein. If you only cook one or the other (brisket-heavy household vs poultry-heavy household), buy the matching pellet first.
What is the best pellet for brisket?
For Central Texas-style brisket where bold smoke flavour leads, the GMG Texas Blend is an excellent choice. The Black Oak base holds the cooking temperature steady across a 12 to 14 hour low-and-slow cook, the dominant Hickory produces the classic Texas BBQ smoke profile, and the hint of Mesquite adds the Lone Star character without becoming overwhelming. For competition-style brisket where presentation matters more than smoke intensity, the milder BBQr's Delight Contest Mix produces a more subtle smoke ring and mahogany bark. Both work for brisket: the choice depends on your preferred smoke profile.
How does Texas Blend compare to pure Hickory pellets?
Pure 100% Hickory pellets produce a more aggressive, single-note smoke profile that can become overwhelming on long cooks (16 hours plus). Texas Blend mellows the Hickory dominance by combining it with the cleaner-burning Black Oak base and using only a hint of Mesquite for character. The result is a smoke profile that still tastes distinctly Texas, but with more depth and less harshness. For shorter cooks where you want pure aggressive Hickory smoke (a quick rack of ribs, for example), single-wood Hickory pellets can work. For long cooks like brisket, the Texas Blend's balanced composition is generally a better choice.
    What is the ash content?
Less than 1% ash content. This matters for pellet grills with auger systems and fire pots: low ash production means the burn stays consistent across long cooks and the fire pot does not need vacuuming every two cooks. Cheaper oak-filler pellets often produce 2 to 3% ash, which builds up faster in the fire pot and can affect burn characteristics and air flow over time.
How long does a 12.7kg bag last?
Approximately 25 hours of burn time at low-and-slow temperatures (around 110°C) or approximately 12 hours at higher temperatures (around 180°C). In practical terms, a 12.7kg bag typically covers 2 full brisket cooks (12 to 14 hours each), 4 pulled pork shoulder cooks, or 8 to 10 weeknight pellet grill sessions. Exact consumption varies with weather (cold weather increases burn rate noticeably), the specific grill model, and your cook temperatures.
Are GMG pellets the same as Traeger or Pit Boss pellets?
No. Each pellet grill manufacturer produces their own pellet range with different wood blends, density specifications, and tuning. The 6mm food-grade pellet standard is universal across all brands (every pellet works in every grill), but the manufacturer-branded pellets are tuned to that specific brand's auger feed rate and PID controller. GMG Texas Blend is tuned to GMG grills. Traeger pellets are tuned to Traeger grills. Pit Boss to Pit Boss. The differences in tuning are subtle but real, particularly on long cooks where consistency matters most.
Why does the Texas Blend have a "hint" of mesquite rather than more?
Mesquite is the most assertive of the American BBQ smoke woods. Pure mesquite is excellent for short, high-heat cooks (Texas tacos, mesquite-grilled fajitas, quick steaks) where its earthy character is the star. On long cooks (brisket, pork shoulder), mesquite turns bitter and overpowering. The Texas Blend uses just enough mesquite to add the unmistakable Lone Star character to the smoke profile without crossing into the harshness that defines pure mesquite on a 14-hour cook. The result is "Texas-style" smoke that you can run for a full long cook without the finished product tasting bitter.
How should I store the 12.7kg bag?
Store in a cool, dry place. Reseal the bag tightly after each use. Pellets are highly hygroscopic: they absorb moisture from humid air and degrade quickly if left exposed. Common signs of degraded pellets include swelling, sawdust at the bottom of the bag, and inconsistent burn behaviour. For long-term storage of opened bags, transfer pellets to an airtight container or sealed plastic bin. Stored correctly in a sealed container, pellets last indefinitely.
Can I pick up from the showroom?
Yes. GMG Texas Blend 12.7kg bags are in stock at our Wetherill Park showroom for immediate pickup: Monday and Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 2pm (closed Tuesday and Sunday). Sydney metro delivery is also available. Call 0434 010 411 to confirm stock or to discuss which GMG pellet suits your specific cooking style. We can also demonstrate the Texas Blend on our showroom GMG Peak Prime 2.0 if you are also considering a GMG grill purchase.
