BBQs and Smokers: Common Questions

The questions we get asked most often on the showroom floor and over the phone. Cannot find what you need? Call or message us.

What is the best BBQ to buy in Australia?
The best BBQ depends on how you cook. For pure flavour and versatility, a Big Green Egg ceramic kamado does smoking, grilling and searing in one unit. For set and forget convenience, the Masterbuilt Gravity Series or a Yoder pellet smoker hold temperature for hours. For fast everyday cooking, a Broil King 4 or 6 burner gas BBQ is hard to beat. Tell us how you cook and we will match you to the right one.
What is the difference between a BBQ and a smoker?
A BBQ is built for direct, high heat grilling and searing. A smoker is built for indirect, low and slow cooking at temperatures around 110 to 135 degrees Celsius, with wood smoke as a flavour layer. Many premium units (Big Green Egg, Masterbuilt Gravity, Yoder pellet smokers) do both well, which is why they cost more and earn their place.
Do you sell portable BBQs?
Yes. The Big Green Egg MiniMax is our pick for portable charcoal cooking: a compact ceramic kamado that sears, grills and smokes like a full size unit, with a carry handle, stand and side shelves. Ideal for camping, the beach or a small balcony.
How many burners do I need on a gas BBQ?
For couples or compact outdoor spaces, a 2 burner gas BBQ like the Coleman Revolution is enough. For most families, a 4 burner with a side burner is the sweet spot. If you regularly entertain or want premium build quality, step up to a 5 burner like the Broil King Regal Q 590 Pro. For crowds and outdoor kitchen builds, the 6 burner Imperial and Regal models are the flagship.
Are 6 burner BBQs worth it?
If you cook for a crowd, regularly run multiple temperature zones, or want a sear station alongside indirect heat, a 6 burner BBQ is worth the upgrade. Our Broil King Imperial and Regal 6 burner models give you the full burner count plus side burners, rotisserie kits and a build quality that lasts.
Are pellet smokers worth it?
If you want wood-fired flavour without babysitting a fire, yes. Pellet smokers hold temperature digitally for hours and burn real hardwood for genuine smoke flavour. Our range covers the value Nexgrill Oakford, the WiFi-enabled Green Mountain Grills, and the flagship Yoder Smokers built for competition BBQ. Read our full breakdown in Are Pellet Smokers Worth It?
Charcoal, gas, pellet or kamado: which is best?
Charcoal gives the deepest flavour and highest sear heat, but needs more attention. Gas is the fastest and most convenient for weeknight cooking. Pellet is set and forget wood-fired flavour for low and slow. Kamado does all three. Our buying guides break down the trade-offs honestly: Gas vs Charcoal, Are Kamados Worth It.
Do you deliver BBQs and smokers outside Sydney?
We personally deliver every BBQ and smoker across the Sydney metro at no charge, with installation included on Big Green Egg, Yoder, Masterbuilt, Broil King, Green Mountain and Nexgrill. We also deliver statewide across NSW, quoted at checkout. Accessories, rubs, pellets and charcoal ship Australia wide.
Can I see the BBQs before I buy?
Yes, every BBQ and smoker we stock is on display at our Wetherill Park showroom in Sydney, including Australia's largest Yoder Smokers display. Drop in for hands-on advice from the team who actually cook on this gear, or call ahead to book a cooking demo.
What is the best smoker for beginners?
For first-time smokers, the Masterbuilt Gravity Series and the Green Mountain Grills WiFi pellet range are the easiest entry points. Both hold temperature digitally, so you can focus on the cook instead of the fire. Step up to a Yoder when you want the heavy-gauge American build and competition-grade performance.
