Which Burner Count Suits You
Burner count is the single biggest decision when buying a gas BBQ. Pick by how you actually cook and entertain, not by what looks impressive in the showroom.
Couples and Small Households
Most of your cooks are for two to four people: weeknight steaks, a few snags, the occasional weekend lunch. You want gas BBQ quality without losing half your balcony or paying for capacity you will rarely use.
Families and Weekend Entertainers
You cook for your family most weeknights and host friends or extended family on weekends. You need multiple temperature zones for cooking proteins, vegetables and sides at the same time, and a side burner for sauces and warming.
Regular Entertainers and Outdoor Kitchens
You host frequently, cook for crowds, and treat your outdoor space as a serious entertaining area. You want five burners plus a side burner so you can run multiple cooks in parallel without juggling timing or batching.
You Want Gas AND Charcoal Without Two BBQs
You want the convenience of gas for weeknights and the flavour of charcoal for weekends, but you do not want two separate BBQs taking up two outdoor footprints. The Dual Fuel solves this with a full gas grill and a full charcoal kettle in one integrated unit.
Sitting between two scenarios? In our experience, buyers consistently regret going smaller more than they regret going bigger. If you are torn between two sizes, the larger one is almost always the right call.

Both finishes are equally weather-resistant and structurally identical. The difference is how the BBQ looks in your outdoor space and how much cosmetic upkeep matters to you.
Matte Black
Low-maintenance, modern
A non-reflective, sandy-textured finish with a flat black appearance. The textured surface hides fingerprints, water spots, and minor cosmetic marks far better than gloss, which means less wiping down between cooks.
Black Gloss
High visual impact, statement piece
A shiny, polished black surface with a subtle grey dimpled texture. The gloss finish catches light and gives the BBQ a premium, almost automotive appearance. Looks fantastic when freshly cleaned, shows fingerprints and water spots more visibly when not.
If the BBQ lives in a covered alfresco or built-in outdoor kitchen, go Gloss. If it sits in the open and gets used as a workhorse, go Matte. Come and see both finishes side by side at our Wetherill Park showroom before you decide.
Engineered for Australian Conditions
A gas BBQ in Sydney lives outdoors year round. It deals with humidity, salt air, hot sun, and the occasional storm. Here is what makes the Coleman range hold up where cheaper BBQs corrode.
The Build Standard
304 Stainless Steel Burners Across the Entire Range
Every Coleman Revolution, Pro Series, and Dual Fuel BBQ uses 304 stainless steel burners. This is the marine-grade specification that resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments. Painted or coated steel burners (common on entry-level BBQs) rust through within a few years in Australian conditions. 304 stainless does not.
Porcelain-Coated Cast Iron Grates
Cast iron retains and distributes heat far better than thin steel grates, giving you proper sear marks and even cooking. The porcelain coating protects the iron from rust and makes cleanup much easier than bare cast iron. Standard on every Coleman model.
Weatherproof Instastart Ignition
The piezo ignition system is sealed against moisture, so it still fires after rain or heavy dew. Standard ignition systems on cheaper BBQs corrode over time and start failing within the first 2 to 3 years. Coleman engineered around this weak point.
Double-Layer Hood
A double-layer hood improves heat retention for roasting and slow cooking, and reduces heat loss in cold or windy conditions. Less heat loss means more consistent cooking temperatures and lower gas consumption. Standard on Pro Series and Dual Fuel models.
Flare-Free Technology Cooktop
Double-stacked grates capture and remove 75% of grease before it hits the burners. This eliminates flare-ups, reduces burner corrosion from grease buildup, and extends burner life. Patented and standard on every Coleman BBQ.
304 Stainless Steel Construction
Beyond the burners, key structural and high-stress components use 304 stainless throughout: heat shields, manifold, fasteners. This is the same grade specified for outdoor kitchen equipment in coastal commercial installations.
Weather-Resistant Finish
Both matte and gloss finishes are equally durable and equally weather-resistant. The difference is purely cosmetic. Either finish holds up in Sydney conditions when stored covered when not in use. Coleman covers sized for every model are available.
The Coleman Commitment
5-Year Limited Warranty on Every Coleman BBQ
Defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, covered for five years. Registration required at the time of purchase. As an authorised Coleman dealer, BBQ Republic handles warranty registration and support at point of sale.
The Practical Buyer Questions
The everyday questions we get from buyers about LPG, installation, dimensions, and ongoing ownership.
What size LPG bottle do Coleman BBQs use, and is one included?
Coleman gas BBQs use the standard 8.5 kg or 9 kg LPG bottle (sometimes called a 4.5L or "small bottle"), which is the universal Australian residential gas bottle size. The bottle is not included with the BBQ. You can purchase or swap LPG bottles at most service stations, Bunnings, and hardware stores across Sydney.
A full 8.5 kg LPG bottle typically lasts 10 to 18 hours of cooking time depending on burner count and how often you cook at full output.
Can Coleman BBQs be converted to natural gas?
The Coleman Revolution 2-Burner, 4-Burner, Pro Series 5-Burner, and the gas side of the Dual Fuel can all be converted to natural gas using a Coleman conversion kit. Conversion must be carried out by a licensed gas fitter, which is a legal requirement in New South Wales.
The charcoal-side gas-assist burner on the Dual Fuel BBQ cannot be converted and continues to require LPG. If you convert the gas side of the Dual Fuel, you will still need an LPG connection for the charcoal lighter.
Will the BBQ fit through a standard doorway for delivery and assembly?
Coleman BBQs ship flat-pack in cartons that fit through standard Australian doorways (820 mm minimum opening). The boxed dimensions vary by model, but every Coleman model ships in cartons under 80 cm wide.
Once assembled, the larger units (Pro Series 5-Burner and Dual Fuel) measure up to 186 cm wide with side shelves extended. They fit through a standard double doorway with side shelves folded down. If your access is tight, give us a call before purchase and we can confirm the assembled dimensions for the specific model you are looking at.
Do I need to buy a cover, and which size fits?
Covers are not included with Coleman BBQs and are sold separately. A cover is strongly recommended for any BBQ stored outdoors, particularly for the Gloss finish where water spots and surface marks are more visible.
Coleman makes fitted covers sized for each model in the Revolution and Pro Series ranges, including the Dual Fuel. We stock the full Coleman cover range at the Wetherill Park showroom alongside the BBQs.
What is the side burner actually used for?
The side burner is a single gas burner mounted on a foldable side shelf, designed to hold a standard pot or pan. It is genuinely useful for heating sauces, frying onions, boiling pasta water, or keeping side dishes warm while the main cook is happening on the grill.
The Revolution 2-Burner does not have a side burner. The Revolution 4-Burner, Pro Series 5-Burner, and (on the gas side) most premium configurations include one. The Dual Fuel BBQ does not include a side burner: the charcoal kettle takes up that real estate instead.
Can I leave the BBQ outside year round in Sydney conditions?
Yes, with a cover. Every Coleman BBQ uses 304 stainless steel burners and weatherproof Instastart ignition specifically engineered for outdoor year-round use. With a properly fitted cover in place when the BBQ is not in use, you can expect many years of trouble-free use in Sydney humidity and coastal salt air.
Without a cover, the BBQ is still structurally durable, but you will see more cosmetic wear and weather marks over time. A cover is a small investment that protects a significant one.
Is the charcoal kettle on the Dual Fuel BBQ messy or hard to clean?
The charcoal kettle on the Dual Fuel is the same fundamental design as any standalone 57 cm kettle BBQ. Charcoal cleanup involves emptying the ash from the bottom of the kettle once it has fully cooled, which takes about a minute. The hinged lid makes accessing the cooking surface and ash collection easier than a traditional removable lid.
Compared to gas-only cooking, charcoal cleanup adds about 60 to 90 seconds per cook. For many buyers the trade-off is worth it for the flavour. If charcoal cleanup is a dealbreaker for your household, the Pro Series 5-Burner is the better pick.
Are replacement parts available, and how do warranty repairs work?
Coleman is a major global brand with strong parts availability for the Revolution and Pro Series ranges. Common wear items (burners, ignition components, grease cups, knobs) are stocked through the Coleman Australia parts network and we can source them directly when needed.
For warranty repairs, BBQ Republic handles the process as an authorised Coleman dealer. Bring the BBQ to our Wetherill Park showroom or contact us on 0434 010 411 and we manage the warranty claim through Coleman on your behalf.
