    9 kg Bag Weight
    Pure Hickory Single Wood, All-Natural
No Binders Clean Burn, Low Ash
Traeger Hickory Pellets are made from all-natural hickory hardwood. Pure single-wood, full strength. Hickory is the most widely used BBQ smoke wood in the world and the most assertive single-wood option in the Traeger pellet range. Bold, deep, and distinctly smoky with the bacon-like quality that defines classic American BBQ. All-natural, no binders, clean burn, low ash, 9kg bag.
    The Hickory Smoke Profile

The most recognisable smoke in BBQ. Present, assertive, unmistakable.

Hickory smoke does not enhance quietly in the background. It announces itself. The bold, deep, bacon-like character is what most people picture when they think of American BBQ smoke, and it is the smoke profile that defines a significant proportion of the world's most celebrated BBQ traditions — Texas brisket, Memphis ribs, Carolina pork shoulder.

It is the smoke wood you choose when smoke flavour is a primary intention of the cook, not an accent. For proteins that can stand up to it — beef, pork, game — it produces the full-bodied smoke penetration, bark development, and smoke ring that define the competition BBQ aesthetic. For delicate proteins like fish or chicken breast, it is on the strong end.

Where Hickory Sits in the Smoke Spectrum

    Lightest to Most Assertive

Apple Light, fruity, delicate. Enhances without dominating.
Pecan Sweet, nutty. More depth than apple, milder than hickory.
Signature Blend Hickory, maple, cherry balanced for versatility.
Hickory ← Here Bold, assertive, bacon-like. The full-strength classic.
Note on BBQr's Delight Hickory vs Traeger Hickory. BBQ Republic stocks both. The BBQr's Delight Hickory Pellet Grill Fuel is a blend of one-third hickory and two-thirds oak, which moderates the smoke intensity and optimises for consistent combustion across their specific pellet sizing. Traeger Hickory Pellets are pure single-wood hickory with no blending, producing a more assertive and concentrated smoke character. Both are correct products for different cooks and different preferences. Ask us in the showroom if you want to discuss which suits your cooking style.

    Features

    Pure Single-Wood Hickory

No blending, no moderation. Pure all-natural hickory hardwood from raw wood to bagging at Traeger-owned mills in the United States. The full-strength smoke character with no dilution.

    No Binders

Bound by the natural lignin of the hickory wood with no binding agents. Binders affect smoke flavour and leave residue on grill grates. These do not.

    Clean Burn, Low Ash

All-natural hickory combusts cleanly and produces minimal ash despite being a dense hardwood. Less frequent fire pot cleaning between cooks. Consistent performance across the full 9kg bag.

    Compatible with All Pellet Grills

Works in any hopper-fed pellet grill including the full Traeger range, Yoder Smokers, Green Mountain Grills, and NexGrill. Standard auger-safe sizing throughout.

    What to Cook with It

    Hickory Smoke Pairs Best With

Brisket The definitive pairing. Full-strength hickory smoke stands up to a full packer through twelve hours of low and slow.
Pork Ribs Hickory and pork ribs is one of the most established pairings in American BBQ. Bold smoke, developed bark.
Pork Shoulder Smoke penetration builds over a long cook. Hickory adds the deep, assertive character that makes pulled pork distinctive.
Beef Ribs Short ribs and plate ribs have the fat content and mass to handle full-strength hickory without being overwhelmed.
Whole Chicken Assertive on poultry. Works well for cooks who want prominent smoke flavour. Blend 50/50 with Apple to soften.
Vegetables Strong smoke on vegetables. Works on root vegetables, capsicum, and corn where a bold smoky character is the intention.
Compatible with all pellet grills. Works in any hopper-fed pellet smoker including Traeger Pro, Woodridge Pro, Ironwood XL, Yoder Smokers YS640s, YS480s and YS1500s, Green Mountain Grills Ledge Prime 2.0 and Trek Prime 2.0, NexGrill Oakford, and all other standard pellet grill auger systems. Stocked at BBQ Republic's Wetherill Park showroom alongside the full Traeger pellet range and BBQr's Delight pellet grill fuel.

    Common Questions

Is Traeger Hickory the same as BBQr's Delight Hickory?

No. They are different products. BBQr's Delight Hickory Pellet Grill Fuel is a blend of one-third hickory and two-thirds oak, which moderates the smoke intensity and optimises combustion consistency. Traeger Hickory Pellets are pure single-wood hickory with no blending, producing a more concentrated and assertive smoke character. Both are correct products for different preferences. Ask us in the showroom to discuss which suits your cooking style.

Is hickory too strong for chicken?

Hickory is assertive on poultry, particularly chicken breast. For whole chickens and thighs where you want prominent smoke flavour, it works well. For more delicate results, mixing 50/50 with Traeger Apple Pellets or BBQr's Delight Apple softens the profile considerably while retaining the smoky depth. Mix directly in the hopper before loading. For fish, apple or pecan are generally more appropriate than hickory.

Can I use these in my Yoder or Green Mountain Grills?

Yes. Traeger Hickory Pellets are standard food-grade hardwood pellets compatible with all hopper-fed pellet grills including Yoder Smokers, Green Mountain Grills, NexGrill, and every other pellet grill with a standard auger feed system. Load into the hopper the same way as any other fuel pellet.
