The BBQ Republic Promise
The most recognisable smoke in BBQ. Present, assertive, unmistakable.
Hickory smoke does not enhance quietly in the background. It announces itself. The bold, deep, bacon-like character is what most people picture when they think of American BBQ smoke, and it is the smoke profile that defines a significant proportion of the world's most celebrated BBQ traditions — Texas brisket, Memphis ribs, Carolina pork shoulder.
It is the smoke wood you choose when smoke flavour is a primary intention of the cook, not an accent. For proteins that can stand up to it — beef, pork, game — it produces the full-bodied smoke penetration, bark development, and smoke ring that define the competition BBQ aesthetic. For delicate proteins like fish or chicken breast, it is on the strong end.

Features
Pure Single-Wood Hickory
No blending, no moderation. Pure all-natural hickory hardwood from raw wood to bagging at Traeger-owned mills in the United States. The full-strength smoke character with no dilution.
No Binders
Bound by the natural lignin of the hickory wood with no binding agents. Binders affect smoke flavour and leave residue on grill grates. These do not.
Clean Burn, Low Ash
All-natural hickory combusts cleanly and produces minimal ash despite being a dense hardwood. Less frequent fire pot cleaning between cooks. Consistent performance across the full 9kg bag.
Compatible with All Pellet Grills
Works in any hopper-fed pellet grill including the full Traeger range, Yoder Smokers, Green Mountain Grills, and NexGrill. Standard auger-safe sizing throughout.

Common Questions
Is Traeger Hickory the same as BBQr's Delight Hickory?
No. They are different products. BBQr's Delight Hickory Pellet Grill Fuel is a blend of one-third hickory and two-thirds oak, which moderates the smoke intensity and optimises combustion consistency. Traeger Hickory Pellets are pure single-wood hickory with no blending, producing a more concentrated and assertive smoke character. Both are correct products for different preferences. Ask us in the showroom to discuss which suits your cooking style.
Is hickory too strong for chicken?
Hickory is assertive on poultry, particularly chicken breast. For whole chickens and thighs where you want prominent smoke flavour, it works well. For more delicate results, mixing 50/50 with Traeger Apple Pellets or BBQr's Delight Apple softens the profile considerably while retaining the smoky depth. Mix directly in the hopper before loading. For fish, apple or pecan are generally more appropriate than hickory.
Can I use these in my Yoder or Green Mountain Grills?
Yes. Traeger Hickory Pellets are standard food-grade hardwood pellets compatible with all hopper-fed pellet grills including Yoder Smokers, Green Mountain Grills, NexGrill, and every other pellet grill with a standard auger feed system. Load into the hopper the same way as any other fuel pellet.
