How to Use the Ash Removal Pan
Wait until the EGG is fully cold. Never clean ash while the EGG is still warm or while any charcoal is still glowing. Ash retains heat for many hours. For most cooks, wait until the following morning.
Open the draft door and hook the pan onto the opening. The Ash Removal Pan is designed to attach to the draft door frame and sit below it, creating a contained receiving tray directly outside the EGG's lower vent opening.
Use the BGE Ash Tool to rake ash out into the pan. The ash tool is inserted through the draft door opening and used to push and rake ash from the base of the firebox out through the door and into the waiting pan. No need to remove all ash, just enough to restore clear airflow through the bottom vent.
Remove the pan and dispose. Unhook the pan, tip the collected ash into a metal bin, and you are done. The hook-on design means ash stays contained in the pan the entire time rather than spilling across your deck or patio.
Features
Hooks Onto the Draft Door for Spill-Free Removal
The pan attaches directly to the EGG's draft door frame and sits below the opening. Ash raked out with the Ash Tool falls straight into the pan, not onto your decking or patio. The contained shape holds everything until you are ready to tip it into a bin.
Works with the BGE Ash Tool
The pan is designed to be used in combination with the BGE Ash Tool, which rakes ash through the draft door opening and into the pan. The tool fits through the draft door perfectly, and the pan's dimensions (14.25 x 4.5 x 2 inches) are sized to catch the resulting ash without overflow on a normal clean.
Restores Airflow for the Next Cook
Ash accumulation at the base of the firebox gradually restricts airflow through the bottom vent. Raking ash out before each cook keeps the airflow path clear, which means faster temperature build-up at the start of the cook and more consistent temperature control throughout.
Durable Metal Construction
The pan is made from durable metal built to handle repeated use across many seasons of outdoor cooking. At 14.25 inches long by 4.5 inches wide by 2 inches deep, it holds a substantial volume of ash without requiring multiple trips during a single clean.

Common Questions
How does the Ash Removal Pan actually work?
The pan hooks onto the outside of the EGG's draft door opening. With the draft door open and the pan hooked on below it, you use the BGE Ash Tool to rake ash from inside the firebox through the draft door opening and into the pan. The pan catches everything and contains it for disposal, so ash does not fall on your patio or deck during the cleaning process. Once done, unhook the pan and tip the ash into a metal bin.
Do I need the BGE Ash Tool to use the pan?
Yes. The Ash Removal Pan is designed to be used with the BGE Ash Tool, which rakes ash through the draft door opening into the pan. Without the Ash Tool, there is no way to move the ash from the inside of the firebox into the pan without reaching inside the EGG. The Ash Tool is sold separately. Ask us about stocking both.
How often should I clean the ash out of my EGG?
Natural lump charcoal produces very little ash, so the EGG does not need cleaning after every cook. A quick ash removal every two to four cooks is typical for most EGG owners. Before any long low-and-slow cook, check that the base of the firebox is clear enough to allow unrestricted airflow through the bottom vent. The whole process takes less than a minute with the pan and tool.
Does this fit the MiniMax or Small EGG?
No. The Ash Removal Pan (SKU 106049) is compatible with the Medium, Large, XL and 2XL EGGs only. It is not designed for the MiniMax or Small EGG due to the different draft door dimensions on those models. If you have a MiniMax or Small EGG, call us on 0434 010 411 and we can advise on the correct cleaning approach for your size.
