Yoder Competition Cart vs Standard Cart

Yoder Competition Cart vs Standard Cart

The Yoder YS640s is available in three configurations: the Standard Cart at $6,099, the Competition Cart at $8,199, and the Competition Cart with Drawer at $9,299. The cooking chamber, the grill, the controller, and the warranty are identical across all three. What changes is the cart.

Most buyers spend more time researching the grill than the cart, which means a lot of people end up with the wrong configuration. This guide explains exactly what you get for the extra money and who each setup is right for.

We stock all three configurations at our Wetherill Park showroom and cook on the YS640s regularly. If you want to see them in person before buying, come in.

What Is the Same on All Three

Before getting into the differences, the most important thing to understand is what does not change between configurations. Every YS640s regardless of cart type includes the same 10-gauge steel cooking chamber, the same 1,070 square inches of cooking space, the same Fireboard WiFi controller with two meat probes, the same Variable Displacement Damper for direct flame searing, and the same 10-year warranty on the cooking chamber.

The grill performs identically whether it is on a Standard Cart or a Competition Cart with Drawer. If your decision is purely about cooking performance, all three deliver the same results. The cart decision is about mobility, stability, storage, and how you use the grill day to day.

The Standard Cart: $6,099

The Standard Cart is a welded steel frame with fixed legs, two large pneumatic rear wheels, and a bottom shelf for pellet and accessory storage. A grease bucket hook keeps drip management tidy. There is no front work shelf included, though a front shelf attachment is available separately.

For most home cooks cooking in a fixed location on a patio or deck, the Standard Cart is all the cart you need. The grill sits solidly, the bottom shelf keeps pellets and tools close, and nothing about the cooking experience is compromised. At $6,099 it delivers the full YS640s cooking package at the entry price point for the range.

The Standard Cart is also the right choice if you are working with a tighter footprint. The overall dimensions are more compact than the Competition Cart, which matters if you are fitting the grill into a specific patio layout.

Yoder YS640s Standard Cart

The Competition Cart: $8,199

The Competition Cart uses 8-inch flat-free casters across all four corners rather than the two pneumatic rear wheels on the Standard Cart. Flat-free casters do not puncture and provide 360-degree rotation on all four wheels, which gives the Competition Cart significantly better manoeuvrability for repositioning and transport. The cart also adds stainless steel wire shelves and integrated tie-downs for securing the grill during transit.

The name comes from its original design brief: a cart that can be loaded into a trailer, transported to a competition site, unloaded, and cooked on reliably without the frame shifting or the grill losing stability on uneven ground. That same robustness translates to a better home cooking experience even if you never go near a competition.

The Competition Cart is also where the colour options open up. It is available in the iconic Orange, Silver and Military Green, both of which look significantly more striking than the standard finish. For a lot of buyers the visual upgrade alone is worth serious consideration. The orange YS640s on a Competition Cart is one of the best-looking pieces of equipment in the outdoor cooking category.

At $2,100 more than the Standard Cart, the Competition Cart is the right choice if you move the grill regularly, cook on varied surfaces, want a more substantial platform, or simply want the colour options that are not available on the Standard Cart.

The Competition Cart with Drawer: $9,299

The Competition Cart with Drawer adds a full-width storage drawer to the Competition Cart platform. The drawer sits beneath the cooking chamber and provides enclosed, lockable storage for pellets, tools, thermometers, gloves, seasoning, and anything else you want close to hand during a cook.

For home cooks who use the Yoder as their primary outdoor cooking station, the drawer makes a genuine difference to how you use the grill. Everything you need for a cook lives in the drawer. You are not running back inside for the thermometer probe, rummaging through a bag for the Palmyra brush, or leaving seasoning rubs out in the weather. It brings a level of organisation to outdoor cooking that most BBQ setups do not have.

For competition cooks the drawer is even more valuable. Everything you need for service lives in a locked, enclosed space that travels with the grill. Tools, rubs, probes, and sauces are organised and protected from weather and dust during transport.

At $1,100 more than the Competition Cart without the drawer, it is the most straightforward upgrade decision in the range. If you cook seriously and regularly, the drawer earns its keep within a few cooks.

Who Should Buy Each Configuration

Buy the Standard Cart if you cook in a fixed location, do not need enclosed storage, and want the full YS640s cooking experience at the lowest entry price. It is the right choice for most home cooks with a permanent patio or deck setup. Nothing about the cooking experience is compromised.

Buy the Competition Cart if you move the grill regularly, cook on varied or uneven surfaces, want a more substantial platform, or want the Orange, Silver or Military Green colour options. The $2,100 premium buys you a meaningfully better cart with more stability and more visual impact. For anyone who transports the grill to gatherings, holiday houses, or outdoor events, the Competition Cart is worth the upgrade.

Buy the Competition Cart with Drawer if you use the Yoder as your primary outdoor cooking station and want everything organised and accessible in one place. At $1,100 more than the Competition Cart, the drawer is the easiest upgrade decision in the range. If you cook seriously and regularly, the enclosed storage changes how you use the grill.

A Note on Colours

Colour availability is tied to cart type. The Standard Cart comes in the standard finish only. Both the Competition Cart and the Competition Cart with Drawer are available in Orange, Silver and Military Green. If a specific colour is important to your decision, that narrows your choice to one of the Competition Cart configurations.

The orange Competition Cart is the one that gets the most attention. It is the configuration we cook on most and the one we recommend for buyers who want the full Yoder aesthetic. It is one of the most distinctive-looking pieces of outdoor cooking equipment available at any price point.
