Big Green Egg Natural Canadian Maple Lump Charcoal (8 kg)

8 kg bag of 100% natural lump charcoal made from select Canadian maple hardwood. The mildest Big Green Egg charcoal, with a subtle, sweet flavour. No fillers, nitrates, chemicals, coal, limestone, treated wood or petroleum products. Suits every Big Green Egg size and any charcoal barbecue.

Natural Canadian Maple has the mildest flavour of any Big Green Egg charcoal. It is ideal for seafood, vegetables, pork, poultry and pizza, or any time you want the natural flavour of the food to come through. The maple is sourced from sustainable hardwood forests in Canada.

Because it is so mild, Canadian Maple is also a good neutral base when you want the smoke to come from added wood chunks or chips, such as apple or cherry. It is easy to light, burns clean and leaves less ash than briquettes, so the Egg's airflow stays clear.

    Key Features

    • Mildest Big Green Egg charcoal: subtle, slightly sweet flavour that lets the food lead.
    • 100% natural Canadian maple: from sustainable Canadian hardwood forests.

How to Light It in the Big Green Egg

    1. Clear old ash from the firebox with the Big Green Egg Ash Tool.
    2. Open the draft door, the rEGGulator and the dome fully.
    3. Fill with charcoal, leaving about 5 cm of clearance below the rim of the fire ring.
    4. Tuck a SpeediLight Stick into a small mound in the centre, or use the Charcoal EGGniter.
    5. Light and leave the dome open for 10 to 15 minutes (about 5 minutes with the EGGniter) until the charcoal is glowing.
    6. Close the dome and bring the vents down in small steps to your target temperature.

Canadian Maple or Oak & Hickory?

Choose Canadian Maple for fish, prawns, vegetables, chicken and pizza where strong smoke would overpower the dish. Choose Natural Oak & Hickory Lump Charcoal as the all-rounder for beef, pork, ribs and steak. Many owners keep a bag of each and mix them. Compare both on our Big Green Egg charcoal and starters page, or read our best charcoal for kamado grills guide.

Never use lighter fluid or self-lighting briquettes in the Egg. They can taint the ceramic and your food.

    Delivery and Storage

Free Sydney metro delivery. Regional and interstate delivery is by quote, so call 0434 010 411 or contact us before you order. You can also pick up from our Wetherill Park showroom.

Keep the bag sealed and dry. Damp charcoal is hard to light and smokes more. The Big Green Egg Charcoal Storage Bag keeps an opened bag dry next to the Egg.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How does Canadian Maple differ from Oak & Hickory?

Canadian Maple is the mildest Big Green Egg charcoal, with a subtle, sweet flavour for seafood, vegetables, pork and poultry. Natural Oak & Hickory Lump Charcoal gives a classic, balanced wood flavour and is the all-rounder for beef, pork and steak.

Can I mix Canadian Maple with other charcoal?

Yes. Many owners mix it with Oak & Hickory, or use it as a neutral base and add smoking wood chunks to set the smoke flavour.

Is Canadian Maple hot enough for searing and pizza?

Yes. It is 100% natural lump charcoal, so it burns hotter and more efficiently than briquettes. Open the vents fully and give the Egg time to heat through for searing or pizza.

How do I light Canadian Maple charcoal?

Fill the Egg to about 5 cm below the fire ring rim, tuck a SpeediLight Stick into a small mound or use the EGGniter, and leave the dome open for 10 to 15 minutes until the charcoal glows. Never use lighter fluid.

    Can I reuse leftover charcoal?

Yes. Close the draft door and rEGGulator fully after a cook. Next time, stir the leftover lump to drop the ash, top up with fresh charcoal and relight.

Do you deliver Big Green Egg charcoal?

Yes. Delivery is free across Sydney metro. Regional and interstate delivery is by quote, so call 0434 010 411 before you order. You can also pick up from our Wetherill Park showroom.

Can I use this charcoal in other barbecues?

Yes. It works in any kamado, kettle, smoker or charcoal barbecue.

    FAQs

    General

    1. What makes Big Green Egg different from other barbecues?

Big Green Egg uses the highest quality ceramic construction to deliver excellent heat retention, precise temperature control, and versatile cooking performance for grilling, smoking, roasting, and baking. One cooker for all of it.

    2. Can Big Green Egg be used year-round?

Yes. Thanks to its ceramic insulation, Big Green Egg performs consistently in both hot and cold conditions, so it suits year-round outdoor cooking.

    3. Does Big Green Egg charcoal suit every Egg size?

Yes. Big Green Egg Oak & Hickory and Canadian Maple lump charcoal, SpeediLight starters and the EGGniter work in every Egg from the MiniMax to the 2XL, and in other charcoal barbecues too.

    Maintenance

    1. How often should I clean my Big Green Egg?

Routine maintenance such as removing ash and wiping down exterior surfaces should be done regularly. A deeper clean can be performed as needed, depending on how often you cook.

    2. Do I need special cleaners for my Big Green Egg & EGGcessories

For best results, use cleaners designed specifically for ceramic grills and cooking surfaces. The SpeediClean Ceramic Cleaner is recommended. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools that may damage the ceramic finish.

    3. How do I maintain proper airflow?

Keeping the firebox and ash area clear of buildup helps maintain consistent airflow, which is essential for accurate temperature control and efficient cooking.

    Warranty & Guarantee

    1. Is there a warranty on Big Green Egg charcoal and starters?

Charcoal and SpeediLight starters are consumables, so no warranty term applies to them. If a bag or box arrives damaged, call us on 0434 010 411 and we will sort it out. Warranty terms for the Egg itself and its hardware accessories are listed on each product page.

    2. How do I make a warranty claim?

If you bought it from BBQ Republic, we handle the claim for you. If you bought it from another dealer, contact that dealer. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty assessments.

    3. What is not covered under warranty?

Normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage, misuse, and damage caused by improper installation or maintenance are generally not covered under warranty.
