The Gas Side in Use
The gas side performs exactly like the rest of the Revolution range: same Flare-Free Technology, same 304 stainless burners, same one-third hotplate and two-thirds grill grate split. The removable drip tray underneath makes cleanup straightforward, and it pulls out the same way it does on the rest of the range. What is worth knowing is that on its own the gas side is smaller than the 4-Burner, running three burners at 35.7 MJ across 3,036 cm² rather than four burners across 3,097 cm². If gas is genuinely all you plan to use, this is a real, if modest, step down in gas-only capacity compared to the straight 4-Burner.
The Charcoal Side and Gas-Assist Ignition
The 57 cm kettle is a proper charcoal grill, not a token add-on, with adjustable vent and exhaust dampers giving genuine temperature control, and hinged grill grates that lift up to add fuel or check the coals without removing the grate entirely. What actually changes behaviour day to day is the gas-assist ignition: a dedicated 10.5 MJ burner sits under the charcoal bed and lights the coals directly, cutting lighting time from the usual 20 to 30 minutes down to roughly 10 to 15 minutes. That is the difference between charcoal being something you plan a weekend around and something you can decide to use on a Tuesday. In our experience this is the single feature that determines whether an owner actually uses the charcoal side regularly or lets it sit idle.
Running Both Sides at Once
Running gas and charcoal simultaneously is where the Dual Fuel earns its keep for larger gatherings. Use the gas side for proteins that benefit from Flare-Free precision, and the charcoal side for anything you want genuine smoke character on, without needing two separate BBQs taking up yard space. Combined cooking surface across both sides comfortably outpaces any single Revolution model when you need it.
Build Quality
Construction matches the rest of the Revolution range: 304 stainless steel burners, cabinet storage, and the same 5-year warranty. Running two cooking systems in one unit does mean two things to maintain rather than one: the gas side's drip tray and the charcoal side's ash removal are separate jobs, and skipping either one for too long shows up in performance faster than on a gas-only grill.
Who Should Buy It?
The Dual Fuel is right for you if charcoal flavour matters some of the time and gas convenience matters the rest of the time, and you would rather own one unit than two separate grills. It is not the right choice if you have no interest in ever lighting charcoal, in which case the extra $600 over the 4-Burner at the current sale price (closer to $800 at full price) buys capability you will not use, and a straight gas model with a larger gas-only surface is the better buy.
