What Is Happening
The End of an Era for an Aussie Institution
Barbeques Galore has been part of the Australian backyard since the 1970s, so this is a genuinely sad one. The group went into liquidation from 16 June 2026, and its 62 company-owned stores have now closed. The 27 independently run franchise stores continue trading under transitional arrangements, though their longer-term future has not been confirmed. Our thoughts are with the staff affected.
For customers, the practical questions are simple: what happens to gift cards and orders, and where do you buy your gear now. We cover both below. If you are holding a gift card or have an order that has not arrived, the correct first step is Ankura, the receivers and managers running day-to-day trading (bbqg@ankura.com), rather than the administrators at Grant Thornton, who handle the separate creditor process. During the trading period gift cards were honoured under a top-up condition rather than redeemed like cash, and that option ended once the company-owned stores closed, so if you are still holding a card the practical move now is to check with a remaining franchise store or contact Ankura directly for the current position.
