Yoder YS640s Standard Cart. 1,070 sq in. 10-Gauge Steel. The Cooking Engine That Defines the Pellet Category.
This is the entry point into the YS640s lineup and arguably the most purist configuration in the range. The same 10-gauge steel cooking chamber. The same ACS controller and FireBoard integration. The same lifetime body warranty. The same direct flame grilling capability that put Yoder on the map over fifteen years ago. On a clean, powder-coated black cart designed for backyard cooks who set their grill in place and leave it there.
We have been cooking on the YS640s platform since 2014. The difference between this grill and the lightweight pellet category is immediate and it is structural. Thicker steel. Tighter seams. Consistent temperatures across 12-hour smokes. A grill that rewards long ownership and sustained high-heat use in a way most pellet cookers simply cannot match.

Who This Configuration Is For
The Same Cooking Experience. Fixed Location. Classic Black.
Every YS640s in the Yoder range shares one cooking engine. The 10-gauge steel cooking chamber is identical across the Standard Cart, the Competition Cart, and the Competition Cart with Drawer. So is the ACS controller. So is the cooking surface at 1,070 sq in. So is the lifetime body warranty.
What separates the Standard Cart is the platform it sits on. A clean, powder-coated black cart at a standard working height. No wire cart shelves, no tie-down points, no 8 inch solid rubber casters. For a backyard cook who positions the grill once and leaves it there (on a patio, in an outdoor kitchen, against a cover on the back wall) these features are not needed. The Standard Cart strips them out and lets you put every dollar into the cooking hardware that actually matters.
The result is a genuine Yoder YS640s (built in Hutchinson, Kansas, same steel, same controller, same warranty) at the most accessible price point in the range.

Temperature Control
The ACS Controller and FireBoard
The Adaptive Control System is the brain of every YS640s, including the Standard Cart. Built on FireBoard technology, it provides full Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity with remote monitoring via the FireBoard mobile app. Track both food probes, adjust cook temperatures, and check on a long smoke from anywhere (your kitchen, the lounge, or entirely off-site).
The ACS actively manages auger feed rate and airflow in response to real-time temperature data. This is what keeps the grill stable across 12-hour smokes and what lets you run an overnight brisket without babysitting it. The controller works fully without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Those are additions, not requirements.

A Key YS640s Differentiator
Direct Flame Grilling
Yoder Smokers introduced direct flame grilling to the pellet industry over fifteen years ago. Most pellet grills rely solely on radiant heat from a diffuser plate. The YS640s has a trap door in the heat management plate that opens to expose food directly to the offset firepot, giving you genuine sear marks and wood-fired flavour at high heat.
The YS640s runs from 150°F for low-and-slow smoking through to beyond 700°F at the grill surface with direct flame engaged. Both extremes are available on the same cooker without changing your setup. A patient 12-hour brisket and a high-heat tri-tip sear live on the same grill with the same hardware. This is the single biggest reason we chose the YS640s as our demo unit and have cooked on it continuously since 2014.

Optional Attachment
The Wood-Fired Oven Attachment
With the optional Yoder Smokers Wood-Fired Oven Attachment installed, the YS640s Standard Cart becomes a balanced wood-fired oven. The patent-pending system captures heat from the large offset firepot and redistributes it evenly from the top and bottom of the oven chamber. It includes a stainless steel hood, proprietary heat management plate, and a 3/4" thick American-made cooking stone.
Ready to cook in as little as 30 minutes, it handles everything from Neapolitan-style pizza through to baking, sautéing, and broiling. Available separately through our showroom. Ask us about it when you visit.
Finish
Classic Black Powder Coat
The Standard Cart is finished exclusively in powder-coated black. A clean, understated finish that sits comfortably alongside stainless steel outdoor kitchens, timber-clad alfresco setups, and masonry bench builds. It is the finish of choice for customers who want the YS640s to complement their space rather than dominate it.

The YS640s Standard Cart is on the floor at our Wetherill Park showroom alongside the Competition Cart and the Competition Cart with Drawer. You can walk around all three, open each hood, feel the weight of the doors, and get an honest sense of whether the extra spend on the Competition platform is worth it for the way you actually cook. At this price point, that comparison is worth making in person.

Fuel and Pellet Compatibility
What to Run in Your YS640s
The YS640s runs on 100% hardwood pellets with no binders, no fillers, and no softwood. We stock and personally use BBQr's Delight Contest Mix in our own unit and recommend it to every Yoder customer we deliver to. Avoid pellets with flavour additives or non-hardwood fillers. They affect combustion quality, produce more ash, and foul the firepot faster.
The 20 lb hopper provides a solid reserve for extended cooks without constant reloading. On a 12-hour low-and-slow smoke you will typically use 8 to 12 kg of pellets depending on ambient temperature and cook temperature.
Assembly and Maintenance
Setup and Care
Assembly: Two-person assembly is required. The grill ships as separate components and the cooking chamber requires two people to lift onto the cart. We handle all of this as part of our free Sydney delivery and installation service, so you do not need to think about it.
Ongoing care:
- Clean grates and firepot after each session
- Empty the ash pot and grease tray regularly, particularly after high-heat cooks
- Keep the grill covered when not in use to protect the powder coat finish
- Check for firmware updates via the FireBoard app periodically
- Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners
Common Questions
YS640s Standard Cart · FAQs
Is the cooking chamber the same as the Competition Cart?
Yes. The cooking chamber, ACS controller, cooking surface of 1,070 sq in, lifetime body warranty, and cooking performance are identical across the Standard Cart, Competition Cart, and Competition Cart with Drawer. The differences sit in the cart, not the cooker. If your grill is going to stay in one place on a patio or in an outdoor kitchen, the Standard Cart delivers the same cook for a lower price point.
Why would I choose the Standard Cart over the Competition Cart?
Two reasons. First, cost. The Standard Cart is priced several thousand dollars below the Competition configurations and delivers the same cooking experience. Second, aesthetic and footprint. The Standard Cart in black sits cleanly in residential outdoor kitchens and is the preferred choice for customers who are not moving the grill to events or competitions. If you do not need the raised working height, wire cart shelves, 8 inch solid rubber casters, or integrated tie-down points, you are paying for features you will not use.
Can I add the Wood-Fired Oven Attachment to the Standard Cart?
Yes. The Wood-Fired Oven Attachment is fully compatible with all YS640s configurations including the Standard Cart. It is available as an optional addition through our showroom. Ask us about it when you visit or call.
Does the ACS controller work without Wi-Fi?
Yes. The grill operates fully from the onboard controller without a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. The FireBoard app adds remote monitoring and adjustment but is not required for normal operation.
Can I upgrade the cart later?
The cart is not designed to be swapped out after purchase. If you are uncertain whether the Standard Cart or the Competition Cart suits your cooking style better, the most reliable way to decide is to view both in person at our Wetherill Park showroom before you commit. We will walk you through both configurations honestly so you do not pay for features you will not use, and equally so you do not regret not having them.
What pellets should I use in the YS640s?
Any 100% hardwood pellet without binders or fillers. We stock and personally use BBQr's Delight Contest Mix in our own YS640s and recommend it to every customer we deliver to. Avoid cheap supermarket pellets that use softwood fillers. They produce less smoke flavour, more ash, and foul the firepot faster over time.
How does delivery and installation work for the Standard Cart in Sydney?
BBQ Republic offers free delivery and installation across the Sydney metro area. Martin personally delivers every unit, positions it on site, pairs the ACS controller with Wi-Fi, and walks through your first cook before leaving. At 190 kg, the grill requires professional installation. There is no flat-pack assembly at your end and no courier drop-off at the kerb.
How does warranty work for Australian customers?
Every Yoder Smoker purchased through BBQ Republic is backed by Yoder's lifetime warranty on the cooking chamber body (welds, seams, and structural steel), plus manufacturer warranty on electronic components and moving parts. BBQ Republic is an official Yoder Smokers dealer, so your warranty is fully supported through the correct factory channel from day one. Purchasing from an unauthorised seller or grey-market importer can void your warranty entirely. Warranty claims are handled directly through us.
Why is the YS640s priced higher than most pellet grills on the market?
Three reasons. First, the steel. Most pellet cookers are built from 16 or 18 gauge steel. The YS640s cooking chamber is 10 gauge. That difference is visible, audible, and measurable in how the grill holds temperature across a 12-hour smoke. Second, direct flame grilling, which no other mainstream pellet brand offers. Third, the warranty. The lifetime cooking chamber warranty reflects the build quality, and the grill is designed to be a generational purchase rather than a five-year appliance.
