The BBQ Republic Promise
Dual-Wall Insulated Construction. Temperature that does not waiver.
In a single-wall grill, the cook chamber temperature fluctuates when the ambient temperature changes. Wind picks up, the cook chamber loses heat, the controller compensates, and a sawtooth temperature curve develops across a long cook. The Ironwood XL's fully insulated dual-wall construction buffers external temperature variations with thermal mass. The set temperature stays closer to actual throughout the cook, regardless of weather conditions.
For a brisket running twelve hours on a Sydney winter evening, this means the grill is doing less corrective work and producing a more stable cooking environment from hour one through to hour twelve. Smart Combustion technology continuously adjusts the auger speed and fan to maintain the set point in response to the feedback from the RTD temperature sensor, compounding the precision benefit of the insulated chamber.

What the Ironwood XL Has That the Woodridge Pro Does Not
Ironwood XL Exclusive Features vs Woodridge Pro
Key Features
Smart Combustion Technology
Integrates the controller, fan, and auger into a continuous feedback system that adjusts fuel delivery and airflow in real time to maintain the set cooking temperature. Working alongside the dual-wall insulated chamber, Smart Combustion produces tighter temperature control than the D2 system in the Pro series, which is already capable.
Touchscreen Display
Replaces the standard push-button digital display with a touchscreen interface for navigating temperature settings, Super Smoke Mode, Keep Warm Mode, and WiFIRE controls. More intuitive to operate during the cook without needing to navigate through button menus on a hot grill.
Two Wired Meat Probes
Two probes are included rather than the single probe in the Woodridge Pro. On a grill of this capacity with 924 square inches of cooking space, running simultaneous proteins or large cuts at different stages of the same cook is common. Two probes cover two simultaneous temperature readings via the Traeger app without additional accessories.
Super Smoke Mode and FreeFlow Firepot
The FreeFlow firepot maximises fresh smoke circulation over the food at low temperatures. Super Smoke Mode activates this system to deliver more wood-fired flavour penetration during low-and-slow cooks at 74 to 110°C. Available at the touch of the screen rather than through a menu.
EZ-Clean Grease and Ash Keg
Grease and pellet ash collect together in a single container that pulls out from the front of the grill. Post-cook cleanup is significantly faster than on the Pro series. No separate grease bucket management. No separate ash removal step.
P.A.L. Pop-and-Lock Rail and ModiFIRE
The P.A.L. rail accepts the full range of Traeger accessory attachments: tool hooks, storage bins, roll racks, folding shelves, and cup holders. ModiFIRE cooking surfaces sit directly on the grill grates and expand what the cooking surface can do, including the reversible cast iron griddle and fish and vegetable tray.
Six Cooking Modes
Compare the full Traeger range against Yoder Smokers in person.
BBQ Republic's Wetherill Park showroom is the only place in New South Wales where you can see the full Traeger range alongside Yoder Smokers at the same time. The Ironwood XL, the Woodridge Pro, and the Pro series all available to inspect, alongside the Yoder YS640s and YS480s. Common Questions
What does dual-wall construction actually do for cooking performance?
Single-wall cook chambers lose heat more readily when external conditions change — wind, ambient temperature drops, or prolonged cold weather. The controller compensates by adjusting the fuel, which can create minor temperature fluctuations across a long cook. The Ironwood XL's fully insulated dual-wall chamber buffers these changes, so the internal temperature stays closer to the set point without as much corrective adjustment from the controller. Over a twelve-hour brisket cook, this produces a more stable and consistent cook environment than a single-wall grill can maintain.
How does the Ironwood XL compare to the Woodridge Pro?
The Woodridge Pro is an excellent mid-range pellet grill with Super Smoke Mode, EZ-Clean Keg, P.A.L. Rail, and full-colour display. The Ironwood XL carries all of those features and adds dual-wall insulated construction, Smart Combustion technology, a touchscreen, two wired probes, and a 22lb hopper. The core upgrade is the insulated chamber and Smart Combustion, which produce measurably more consistent temperatures across long cooks. If temperature precision across a twelve-hour cook is a priority, the Ironwood XL is the correct step up.
Can I sear on the Ironwood XL?
Yes. The Ironwood XL holds and maintains up to 260°C at the grate level, which produces a proper sear crust on steak, burgers, and chops. For the best sear result on a reverse-seared cook, bring the meat to target internal temperature at a lower temperature first, then crank the grill to maximum and sear directly on the lower grate for a few minutes per side. The dual-wall construction helps the grill recover to maximum temperature quickly after the lid is opened.
