The Origin Story

From Backyard Obsession to Sydney's BBQ Republic

BBQ Republic wasn't built around a business plan - it was built around a passion that had been burning for over fifteen years. It started the way most great things do: with one unforgettable cook and the unshakeable feeling that this was something worth chasing.

In 2014, I purchased my first Yoder Smoker. That was the moment everything changed. What started as curiosity became a deep, consuming obsession with fire, smoke, time, and the extraordinary food that results when you truly understand all three. One smoker became two. Two became five. The collection now sits at nine BBQs and smokers at home - a curated arsenal running the full spectrum from Yoder Smokers and Big Green Eggs to everything worth cooking on in between.

Long before BBQ Republic existed, I was already known for it. At every workplace, I'd be the one showing up with a brisket that had been smoking since before sunrise. Low-and-slow pork shoulders. Whole chickens with that mahogany crust people couldn't stop talking about. It didn't take long to earn the title - BBQ King - and with it, a growing realisation that this wasn't just a hobby. This was a calling.

The idea for BBQ Republic crystallised when I looked at the Sydney market and saw the same story playing out everywhere: retailers selling world-class equipment without the faintest idea how to use it. No real knowledge. No genuine experience. No passion. Just price tags.

That gap is exactly why BBQ Republic exists. When you walk through our door, you're not talking to a salesperson who read a brochure. You're talking to someone who has personally cooked on everything in the showroom - who can tell you not just what a Yoder Smoker is, but what a twelve-hour brisket on one actually tastes like.
